1. We are playing a beer festival tomorrow and the PA system is mega and operated by one of the guys from the Take That tour, we did it in May and I just took my 1x12 shuttle 6.0 Genz combo, I was struggling to hear my intonation on upright bass so I am thinking of ditching the amp and using my Genz 3.0 as a Di box into the desk and having a good monitor mix instead, we are a fairly quiet trio with Jobecky electric drums (the ones that look like a drum kit) so I dont have any drum sound behind me which is weird if you have never tried it! Am I brave enough?
2. Just remember no one will understand how much trouble you have gone to, I always make sure I thank the sound/lights crew even if the gig was crap (unless it was their fault, very rarely) as I appreciate how much work goes into these things, we have a nice slot at a beer festival on sunday that has got better as we have gon.e from 1pm then to 3pm and now we are the 6pm-8pm slot which should be a good one looking at many previous doos there, that is in part due to the organisers knowing we are not tossers with loads of demands and stuff. The best thing about that gig is that we dont need to drag all our gear there, play and drag it all home, They have an excellent pa and lighting rig and 2 pro guys working it for 3 days solid! I might not even take an amp and just have a Di to the expensive monitor wedge
3. I am sure it will go well as you have clearly given it some thought and preparation
4.
Ironwood
My mate does wood turning, that stuff is heavy and only good for seriously heavy metal!
5. Is it good for metal though? Would you need metalwood trees instead?
6. Oooh yes I'd try a big Al version of an sbmm. Jtuk only plays fender copies anyway
7.
Stop it Pete, you've got me thinking. I started on DB as a teen, maybe I should try an EUB as an arthritic old git. Oh hell, I can feel the " there's a thought" building up. (Wonders off to for sale threads).
Have a peek in the double bass section on here, you will be ready to explode with gas, for us with knackered wrists it's medicinal really
8. Thanks again everyone, Raslee I will pm you, thanks It was because of the note duration I fancied looking at the dots and for a general bit of reggae improvement. What are these neck pickups you speak of? treble off, bass boosted, foam mutes engaged on the classicRay, thumb near the neck and I'm away!
9. Ah you have a Sterling Sterling then, lol. If you want a stingray tone then a basslines or similar will work (didn't flea use them in something?) And a John east preamp for certain, check out his site! A used genuine USA Sterling pickup would be good if you can find one on Ebay or a Bartolini version maybe?
10. Is this between USA sterlings and USA stingrays or stingrays and the cheaper Sterling version?
11. Thanks guys, I think I probably have been over playing when jamming reggae stuff so the sparse playing is something I need to keep in my head

13. Just seen them on the guitar guitar site, I have concidered getting a 55-94 if one comes up used but these are the same as used 55-94 money new and not skyline range. Hhmm credit card on the ready.....
14.
Ha ha, a bit like me and the EUB experience at recent bass bashes. Never thought I could possibly play such an instrument, but now I'd really like one. Maybe next year...
The best thing that came from breaking my wrist was taking up the eub then the DB, do it!
15. I was anti 5 strings when I joined basschat, now look at me!
16. I have a sort of audition in 2 weeks, first one in 20 years as I have always been asked if I will play for bands rather than be auditioned . I know quite a bit of the set, certainly enough for the one hour session booked but they have requested a reggae number if I have time to learn one as the last bassist could not cut them, truth is I have not gone down that path much really, Buffalo Soldier and Three little birds are in the set list sent over so I thought I should nail at least one if not both, fail to prepare and prepare to fail and all that, although my playing skills have got me the call they want to make sure I am not a cock more than anything so that could be a problem I have jammed along to the track and found bits of notation which tidied it up but I would like the whole track in fly sh*t if anyone has it? or 3 little birds. Any general Reggae tips that will help when blagging reggae would be useful too?, Thanks
17. Sounds like he created his own TT supply regardless of the mains incomer type which is cool if you know what you are doing but not so much if you dont.
18. If you get the EQ set just right you should be able to use the treble pot like you would a tone pot on a P bass off for reggae, a little bit when using a pick, bit more for funky disco etc.
19. One of the best deep down and solid supporting the band sounds I can think of is done on a Ray, Cliff Williams AC/DC
20.
Now, when I see and hear a MM in a band... they tend to get it all wrong, IMO.
My sh*t playing is far more of a concern than the tone of my basses
21. Steelers wheel was the first song I learnt playing across the board on a five string for a dep gig, thank feck I did too because they changed the key on the night! So much easier playing the E on the B string and so much easier to change keys on the fly hence I will never go back to 4 strings now.
