1.
Thanks, glad you like it ! I've trimmed down the effects that I'm using, I realised I wasn't using most of them. The only effects on this would be my TC hall of fame reverb using the Steve Lawson tone print. There's chorus too, which is an mxr. I have a TC flashback delay too, but I'm not sure if I used that on this. It was an improvisation. I'm going to write it out later, I'm happy to put a copy up if you want ? It's all played using an ebow, except for the melody bit. The ebow has a switch, the high bits that sound like cries are with the switch in the down, away from you position. Play the melody first, I usually have at least a 4 bar loop, that gives plenty of scope for improv and avoids it sounding too repetitive. I have some videos that I recorded last week, they kind of show the process. A lot of it is down to how you hear what you're doing. I tend not to think bass.
Thanks, would really like to see the written-out version. Do you use volume pedals for fade-in and outs? Or is that the effect of the ebow? ps is "An Ascent Ending" a nod to Eno? pps oh scrub that I've just read your Soundcloud profile
 2.
Lots of reviews and info on looping here - http://www.loopers-d...t.com/loop.html This is something I recorded on my Ditto earlier - https://soundcloud.c...d/25052015-live
Nice! can you tell us what "a few effects pedals" are, and how you constructed the track with the looper? I've not much further than "play the chords for a 12-bar" and solo over the top.
 3. I had a Headrush. Great pedal and you get the echo/delay functions as well, but the looper is limited by the short loop time - 24s or 36s depending on settings. I traded up to a Ditto X2, you get 5 minutes loop time there.
 4. I bought Muri's MXR Bass Octave Deluxe - a great pedal, an easy and quick transaction and personal delivery too. Good job!
 5.
Hope she enjoys this.
Thanks! Sorry to say though she wandered off muttering something about "landing fields" and "behind the fretboard" making no sense
 6. After twenty-five years playing, I'm still struggling with the following: - getting the guitarist to shut up (ie stop playing when not needed) - getting the keyboard player to turn down - getting the drummer to play at the right tempo It's not all bad news! I've succeeded with singers, I only play instrumental music these days
 7. What's double thumbing? My wife is curious.
 8.
Johnny Depp was a musician in South Florida long before he went to L.A. and became an actor.
Also, you didn't see me round 'ere right... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/254513-denmark-street-hype-or-tripe/page__view__findpost__p__2673765
 9.
Have found Wiki mentions of Depp playing guitar & drums, but can't find bass.
10. Johnny Depp
 11.
Yup.
What am I missing? anything apart from general awesome guitar solo?
 12. Lianne is an old friend of Later - she was on a few times when her last album was out (and that's how I first heard of her). First time I've seen her play bass though! Check this one out from a couple of years ago. Hot Sardines were great, didn't like John Misty though, my sincere beard-o-meter was in the red.

 15.
That's really easy on the eye.
Sure is - but 4080s have always felt a bit top-heavy for me. Stick the bass on the bottom like a Shergold or Mike Rutherford's customer Rickenbacker 360/12-4001 cut&shut model. (I'm sure Geddy will see the error of his ways on reading this and switch immediately)
 16. +1 for Procell - recently rebranded as Duracell Industrial. Get them from Babz Media on eBay for best price and fastest delivery. Here's the 10 for £8 pack, http://www.ebay.co.u...L-/150518690146
 17.
Thanks, I think I half heard a trailer but didn't catch the timing.
Probably 11/8
 18. Wide open on a Jazz bass, it's hard to fiddle with them for volume purposes when there's two of them. Overall I use a volume pedal at the end of my effects chain for swells and fades, or just playing dynamics as the song dictates.
 19.
No. Buy everything they have done and sell the ones you don't like :-)
What, even Test For Echo?
 20. Moving Pictures, 2112, Counterparts, A Farewell To Kings should give you good coverage. Or try the live albums Exit Stage Left, A Show Of Hands and Different Stages for a good cross section of everything.
 21.
The logistics would be crazy.... We'll see.
It'd be great but it's as much Neal Peart's tendonitis as logistics, see https://classicrock.teamrock.com/news/2015-04-29/rush-neil-peart-tendonitis-tour-retirement
 22. There's a guy here on basschat who posted some great demos of (probably among others) the Sonuus Wahoo, which were instrumental (sorry) in me getting one of the same. So there are good ones out there, but as you say some are awful. Thumbs-up to TC Electronic as another manufacturer to provide good non-nonsense pro demos of their pedals.
 23. Wow! Great second set. First set *wavy handy* but it's Rush so they're let off. How far down did they have to tune for the old stuff?
