STOLEN: Bryan Beller's bass collection
toneknob replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
This is a brilliant read: in Bryan's own words, how he tracked down and caught the criminals. Some of the gear has been reclaimed as well. http://www.bryanbeller.com/cms/index.php?page=lob45storagewars "we can get you a badge but you'll have to cut your hair" -
Happy to share and like if it gets the word spread and more people interested in live music. Velcro Pelmet, jazz fusion in south London, soon to be on maneuvres again: https://www.facebook.com/VelcroPelmet/

From the facebook page of Rush: "We are so saddened to hear the news of the sudden and abrupt demise of Classic Rock Magazine, Prog Magazine, Metal Hammer, Team Rock Radio, Team Rock online, as well as the Prog Awards and the Classic Rock Awards. We are thinking of the very talented and passionate staff that lived to bring the music of so many artists to their fans. We've met some amazing people through our interviews over the years with writers like Phil Wilding, Jerry Ewing, and Paul Elliott just to name a few. Props to Ben Ward who started a donation page to help the 73 staffers that are now without a job or wages just before the holidays. We're donating and we urge the rock community to do the same, whatever you can do to support: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/ukrockcommunity" Funds are at £73,102 at time of posting.
There are lots of listings on eBay selling new sousaphones made in India. They look great and are affordable ... but the intonation is almost invariably out and they're really nothing more than a display item rather than a usable instrument.
Good tip (to avoid that is). Free postage from India? Riiiiight.
Second hand sousaphones pop up occasionally, sometimes they're for very high fixed prices upwards of £800 but they don't end up selling. Then there are the few at affordable prices or auctions that sell in the £200 to £300 bracket. I missed out on one when was outbid with seconds to go :-(
I'll keep my eye open. Ultimately I want to do this kind of thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajUGESKFCs4 -
Harmonium and Tubon. I'd love to learnt to play the sousaphone, but I can't find an affordable one :-(
How much are they typically? I've told Mrs Knob to get me one if she's ever short of present ideas. -
Just a bit of fun. Feel free to change the caption.

"So having obtained the regular and required permissions and permits to use the headline act's bass amplification contraption you did both adjust the settings with disregard and also did place your pint of ale precariously on the upper surface without due care and attention?" -
I passed up the opportunity to see them on the Monster tour (in Cardiff I think it was). I've not made many bad decisions in my life, but that's definitely one of them.
I was at Southampton University in the late 80s, and REM were shopping around for a few small venues to do warm up gigs for the Green tour. Their requirements were only an on-campus hall with a couple of hundred capacity. The only room suitable was already booked by the Greek Society. Ents pleaded with the Greeks to shift but they wouldn't be having it. REM ended playing elsewhere. And that's my "REM gigs I missed out on" story (I saw them on the Monster tour in the mid-90s at Milton Keynes Bowl. Better was a few years later at Brixton Academy when it was the 20th anniversary of recording Fables Of The Reconstruction somewhere miserable in north London, they played Feeling Gravitys Pull/Maps And Legends/Driver 8/Life And How To Live It as a mid-set tribute)

Somefing wot I did - A Tube Map For Bass Players.
toneknob replied to Grassie's topic in General Discussion
Nice one! What are the "metal" stops between Kennington and Waterloo? And you toally need to fill in the blanks btw, those are some major stations you've missed out. Can't just name the minor ones - get augmenting! (sorry) -
Last year for my xmas list I put together a custom toolkit plus case (of the buyer's choice) - so, string winder, two appropriately sized screwdrivers, allen key, string snipper, etc etc. Whatever you need for your gig bag. Beats those "all in one" tool kits for the guitarist with a hundred tools you'll never use. Also, I have "something unusual from Ray Man Music" on my perpetual gift list. Substitute your local oddball music shop for Ray Man if needed.

Mark Guiliana and Jason Linder were phenonemal. Look Back In Anger blew me away. I snuck to the bar side towards the end just to get a better view of of MG in action.

This was an amazing gig last night. No Tim though! Any idea where he was? (and who was the other guy, who was pretty good tbh)

Thanks to replies so far! Will seek out that QotSA recording.

I'm more a fan of the "later" material, Hounds Of Love onwards. Director's Cut didn't add much for me though. And I've not heard 50 Words For Snow either. Am I missing out? Likewise I was lucky enough to see Before The Dawn, and I'm hugely looking forward to the live album. Also, it's impossible for a Kate Bush thread to pass me by without adding "saw the show, bought the bass" - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/254282-more-love-for-wunjo-and-basschat/

What a bunch of idiots, the small upside of course is you've not wasted any more time being in a band with them.

Hello! I've been listening to Tame Impala's live album Live Versions, can any of the effects experts here tell me what the effect is we're hearing in the main riff? Have a listen to this, it's most obvious at say 1m53s to 2m10s here. Thanks! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzOw7ixjoss

I took my double-neck 4/8-string Shergold in there for a service. While talking to one of the Chandlers, another interrupted, "sorry mate, we've got Greg Lake on the blower with an urgent question, mind if your man talks to him?" "not at all. Ask him if he wants to buy a Shergold double-neck, yeah?" Shame to see another piece of London guitar history gone
