It won't be a hand held device at the venue. The main panel will be fixed to the wall, usually with the receiver hanging off something near the middle of the room. Calibrated? You would assume so, but by whom, whether accurate and if in date is anyone's guess. This is also going to be the sort of venue that will require PAT stickers up your wazoo @scalpy. Easily solved if you know who to ask.

I guarantee there will be more knobs in the audience than there will be playing instruments. Are they going to vet all the guests as well? There is someone somewhere in the chain of decision making that needs a good kick up the derrière. The client needs to find out who that is and talk some sense into them.

Sound advice mate, but I think it will over complicate things. The issue is that someone has made the decision, that as the OP’s band is not on the ‘recommended list’ (whatever that is), that the band is required to do a sound check on a day prior to the day they have been booked for. The response should be no, that is not happening and if they are standing by that stipulation, then the band will not be playing the wedding. I’ve never heard such an utterly ridiculous request and I wouldn’t be surprised if this has been suggested by a wedding planner type person rather than being a requirement of the venue itself. The venue, it seems, allows live bands to perform there. Whether the OP’s band is on the list or not should make no difference whatsoever, unless they only have acoustic duo’s and the like in which case they should never have been booked. This kind of nonsense boils my blood.

The unprofessional part of all of this is expecting a band to turn up on a separate day to soundcheck against a sound meter because you aren't on the 'approved list' - whatever that is. In all my decades of playing in function bands, I never heard such utter tosh. As previously stated, your contract is with the bride. Tell her the sound check cannot happen and she then either has to sort it out or lose you. Her problem, not yours.

Yeah, you! 😂

I'm still in, despite the temptation of the OP offering me one of his 😂. I have no itches that require scratching, but it doesn't stop me looking, which doesn't bode well.

Well done 👏👏👏👏

Tomorrow headlines: ”Basschat thread descends into Anarchy”

That can’t be right can it? You’ve bought something, but then sell it?!? I can almost understand it if you sent it back from whence it came, but selling it on?
-
Ah, it’s all coming together now. In that case, I take back what I said a while ago. I don’t think I had met you before 😂.

I’m struggling to get anywhere with this without speaking to the venue itself, which I may well have to do somehow although the phone number listed for the venue doesn’t seem to work - shows ‘call failed’. Does anyone on here happen to be in this band, know of them or how to contact them? My band, also Total 80’s are getting notifications for this and it’s causing a lot of confusion. It wouldn’t normally be an issue, but my Total 80’s get gigs through an agent and we perform nationally, not just locally. Please PM me if you have any contacts for them. Thank you.

If not basses, what then?
hiram.k.hackenbacker replied to NancyJohnson's topic in General Discussion
I always felt that I wanted to be a drummer and was steered away from it by my parents. When my attention was grabbed by a bass I think they felt 'well, it's not a drum set' and went with it. That's not to say I'm unhappy with where music has taken me on the bass, but I just can't help wondering what route the other journey might have taken. I think there's a lot more to keep you occupied with a drum set though, so I'm not sure I'd have as many kits as basses 😂 -

Just the bass and case. No power supply with the Spyder.
-
I think I might - just 😂

Yes, it’s the Alembic. Going to an excellent home in the USA. I probably should have clarified that weight is the bass in it’s case, but nothing else. Those Spyder cases are unbelievably solid. I’m sure if you had a good few of them you could make a decent fallout shelter 😂
