  1. And again Royal mail have failed to deliver, didn't even leave a card, the website says they tried to deliver this morning but no card, no knock at the door (have been in all day), someone's telling porkies.

Just wanted a cheap harness to try out series/parallel but at this rate I might just end up hard wiring the bass in series

Your explanation seems reliant on a) the shipment having the right address on it and/or b) Royal Mail calling at the correct address in an attempt to deliver it. Either way, it doesn't sound like they have lost the package. I use Royal Mail a lot and I very rarely have any issues. Hope you get it sorted.

  2. Why do my private messages to another member get posted on the sodding updates? How frikken rude...

It's a flaw in the system. It's been highlighted several times.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, one day someone is going to post something that was meant to be private as a status update that will be more than just embarrassing for the individuals concerned.

  3. Just weighed my Harley Benton JB40FL. 10.6 lbs!! Now I may have set up the weigher thing wrong but if not...  Great bass, good sound, amazing value - and virtually unusable for a crumbly like me cos of weight.

You'd know just by picking it up if it was 10+ pounds. I know I would....and presumably it has less metal on it (no frets)?

We were with our singer who saw him in Ipswich in October, presumably the same gig. He said it was a great night. From what his team said on stage afterwards, it will likely get rescheduled, but no idea when.

  8. TOP TIP:

If you're going to jump off the front of the stage to dance with the audience during your last song, make sure you don't misjudge the height of the stage and end up flat on your àrse. It's not a good look and is quite embarrassing. Errm, so I'm told.

At least you didn’t do a Grohl and end up in plaster. Or damage your bass (I hope).

  12. Given that the year is of sentimental meaning to him, do I tell my Managing Director that the 1972 Precision he thinks he has, has actually got a 74 neck and 73 pots?🙄

    1. hiram.k.hackenbacker

      hiram.k.hackenbacker

Depends. Is he likely to sell it? If not, I'd be inclined not to mention it. He's happy, misinformed, but happy. Why ruin that?

  16. Does anybody know whether or not Cog Effects will start making pedals again? I really hope so - I've been really keen to try one of their T-16 octave pedals!

This has been discussed a few times over the past 18 months or so and it would appear that Tom is not making pedals at this time. I’ve tried contacting him directly regarding issues with a custom pedal I have, but have had no response.

  19. That disappointing moment when a name bassist whom you befriended and greatly admired chooses to belittle you on Farcebook when you take issue with their alarmist vaxx-skeptic views.

  20. Assuming you wanted the bass, would you buy a 5 string that weighed 10.4lbs?

This is a very interesting point and thread worthy in its own right.

There are lot of people that struggle with weight and for good reason. So part of the answer is right there, because the individuals that suffer from a bass that is optimal weight + 'x' lbs, it probably wouldn't matter how much 'x' is because it becomes insufferable.

Personally, I think I could cope with 10.4lbs as long as the balance was OK. That's what really plays my back up.

The big question is, if weight is an issue, why would you buy it in the first place when there are so many great sub 10lb 5'ers around.

I think we need to know more....and with pictures 😀

  22. First gig with a new group tonight. The other half happened, by chance, to be sitting next to wives of the other band members and she therefore overheard their discussion of "the new bass player". Apparently, they "hope he lasts longer than the last one"...

If it sounds great and they’re comfortable that’s a top buy at that price. My main issue with the sets I’ve had is the cable going kaput! Solved it with my current pair by getting ones with replacement cables. Not had any issue since thankfully. For that price, it’s worth buying a pair as a back up. Thanks for the tip 👍
