Well all fitted, and I can confirm as per Fretmeister, very nice. As you can see the Labella strings do actually fit the Status machine heads perfectly without the expense of upgrading to Hipshot's but this will allow the use of other strings in future, they feel very solid quite a bit of play in the old ones. The Labella are higher tension than the Status due to the size so a tweak on the neck was also required to keep the relief the same. mine are the 60,70,94,115,135

Part of me agrees, I have two plug and play amps with enough flexibility most of the time -MB and GK but still would like an amp with one good para mid to Eq the odd bad room, leaving my bass pre free for variations required song by song

Re feed back - whole new discussion, room , loud back line where she is forced to stand, monitor/PA placement. Feedback destroyers are not the answer here sort the physical problems causing it. I have been down that route. Note Radio mic = no feedback in my book. must be something to do with phasing, So if she ends up out front of the main PA that option may do it. But could just turn everybody else down.

Very Interesting Fretmeister and Bassbus I have a Status electro 5 string and have been using a mixture of status black nylons B,E,A and GHS black nylon on the D &G GHS are higher tension more twangy not as nice tone as status but i needed the tension on the lighter strings - having owned a Rob Allen I love the Labella black nylons and intend to get a set, but as the status nut and machine heads will not take the larger diameter strings (GHS) or Labella i have cut it to get them in. So about 4 months ago made a new nut from Yew as it is just a guide on the Status with a zero fret. I am planning a trip up to Bass direct to buy some Hipshot tuners as they have wider jaw and are used on Rob Allen's and a set of Labella next week. will post a photo at the weekend of the bass nut. keep ya posted when all up graded.

my Mrs loves the extra power and bass response and proximity effect on her Beta 58 over the standard SM58 unit the Radio Beta 58 is good but they all loose something when the battery is on its say out. we have A - B'd this several times so always go for cable if stage allows.

A couple of things since my last offering, Smaller cheaper practice size amps have all their volume in those mid to upper mids when you start to run out of steam, where our ears are most efficient almost like a guitar amp, so you may need to pick up a descent gig-able size combo ASAP and that may help with getting the sound you want, as far as flats I would steer you to half rounds first as these will be better suited to most music and cut down on hand noise as well and easier to slap when required. all the best

Its difficult to say without hearing you, but can only suggest you ask about lessons from your local music store and go through this with them. A good local semi pro should be able to help. It may be down to mastering some left hand muting technique, but could be set up too. I would also say playing through headphones may be part of the issue, get used to getting the bass and amp gains sorted in a reasonable sized room. have you got used to the head phone sound and everything else now sounds strange ? Hope you can sort it soon good luck.

As an electric only player, I did go down the 2 x 12" Mline route, so i would have a flexible rig for big band jazz and function band gigs. As Geoff is suggesting I found 2 x 12" Mline OTT for function band as at volume the bass was too pronounced I couldn't get away from it or EQ it out. mine were both 8ohm. I love just the one for jazz low volume but now have 2x12 Berg for function band gigs. so to sum up the porting works as designed to allow a small combo to hear the acoustic bass at low volume but not recommended for electric high volume gigs, Geoff may get away with this as only one is Mline. hope this is useful

Taking Phils point, pick up bargins when you can. remember speaker efficiency means that for every 3dB difference you will need to double the watts for the same percieved volume so a pair of PA speakers rated at 93dB/mtr will sound half as loud as a pair rated at 96dB/mtr when using the same amp at the same setting. As amps/watt are dearer than speakers go for the most efficient speakers you can. and an average mixer amp. e.g second hand peavey system with black widow speakers. This is important when you consider you loose 6dB with every doubling of distance from your speakers, you need to reach the back of the hall. of course even when you find a PA that is good for 500watts a side at 102dB /1w/mtr doesnt mean its going to sound nicer than the 300watt 93dB rig. I used to buy on efficiency alone and then learnt what sounds best may be a compromise. the singer may want to have the last say. good luck

love the Status half wounds, recently tried a bass with D'addario chromes well impressed with the feel and may well try a set soon, the tension seemed right and think that has a lot to do with it
