From the wiki about 8 string guitars:
Fredrik Thordendal and Marten Hagstrom of Meshuggah tune their 8-string guitars F+Bb+Eb-Ab-Db-Gb-Bb-Eb, and occasionally drop it to Eb+Bb+Eb-Ab-Db-Gb-Bb-Eb, and even five semitones below this tuning, for the song Spasm
I'd imagine he'd copy the low 5 strings of the guitars tuning, but I'm not certain of that. 2:22 Rational Gaze
The tone fingerstyle and slap sounds awsome on this older TRB.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRbmvkzvUII
There's a great midrange tone to these basses that seems quite unique to TRBs.

As others have mentioned, your best bet is to try before you buy, especially since the basses you're interested in are all quite different. My advice would be to have a look into second hand Warwicks (if you've tried one and like the feel), the second hand market for them is great for buyers at the moment and you can get a lot of bass for your money. Things like Streamer LX's and Thumb Bolt-Ons are often going for around £600 or less. Something important to bare in mind with buying second hand Warwicks is the pre-1998 bolt on models have a much slimmer neck profile than the newer ones. Warwick used to use Wenge for the neck as well as the fretboards, now they only use wenge for the fretboard and they use ovangkol for the neck. I own both kinds of Warwicks, and whilst I have no problems with the neck profile of my newer model, the older Warwick I have is truly effortless to play.

Your board looks pretty tidy to me As a not-so-drastic measure you could maybe try using some small cable ties.
Ha! You could get a Wasp Drive from Clacktronics and spend the change on a Moog Prodigy for that!
Exactly! Deep Impacts have a unique sound, but the hype has just got ridiculous now. The reason I've been watching them is because I've been thinking of selling mine. The convenience of having a synth pedal on the floor has become far outweighed by how much better my Micro Korg sounds.

I've been watching Deep Impact synths on ebay lately and I've seen them go for around £350-£450 over the past few weeks. This one however, nearly made me fall off my chair (warning: don't sip hot drinks whilst opening link). Found it! I like that nostalgic feeling of looking back over a setlist a few days after a banger of a gig, there's always 1 or 2 songs that I forgot happened Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers Tommy the Cat (Included "The Awakening" bass solo) Hennepin Crawler Mr. Knowitall Behind My Camel (The Police cover) Groundhog's Day The Last Salmon Man Over the Falls Tragedy's a-Comin' Drum and Whamola Jam (This was actually the track "Whamola") John the Fisherman Jilly's on Smack Green Ranger Jerry was a Race Car Driver Over the Electric Grapevine Harold of the Rocks Encore: Here Come the Bastards Pudding Time Too Many Puppies Is It Luck? Duchess and the Proverbial Mind Spread Note: All songs in the encore were played as a medley. Each track was abridged accordingly, with the exception of "Duchess..." which was played in full.
i had a look at the setlist compared to some of the other dates they have done recently and i think we got a real good set!
Did you see that online or something? I'd like to be reminded of the full set list for night because some of it was a bit hazy for me.
would have liked to hear a couple of songs from pork soda , obviously mud and maybe mr krinkle or bob but i realyl cant complain!
I thought Mr Krinkle was going to happen when the upright came out. Shame it didn't happen, but a bangin' set none the less. The new songs are sounding cool.
I downloaded a couple of Deerhoof tracks off the Gibson web site. It's not just the name that's odd.
Deerhoof are from San Francisco! Although Satomi does sing some tunes in Japanese. They're technically 1/4 Japanese but they have that Japanese "charm" about them that comes from the singer. They're one of those bands that change a lot from album to album. I think they've released 11 albums, so there's a lot to get through. However... Friend Opportunity and Offend Maggie are standout albums IMO. Does anyone know what bass he was using for Over The Falls?
-
Really loved hearing Whamola, Is It Luck and Over The Falls. Didn't expect to hear those tunes.

And what would a thread about obscure Japanese bands be without the mightily insane Melt-Banana

Check out Toe. Their album 'For Long Tomorrow' is a thing of beauty! It's not prog. It gets dubbed post-this and post-blahblahblah, but who cares.. it's a good'n.

I've had one of these pedals for quite a few years. Initially I bought it for live use, which it's great for, but it's proved great for studio stuff. If anyone's into re-amping, this pedal is very useful. I also use mine for my headphone setup at home because it sounds really nice: Bass > Tonebone > Audio Interface > win!
-
I have only played the regular TRB's, but I've always been very impressed by the low B on them. It's definitely worth a try based on that alone, although I haven't tried the exact model you're talking about.

just make sure you don't run your flux capacitor out of phase or it will end with a big bang and lots of tears.
I just picked up a custom barge concepts double blend double looper (two loops, two blend settings per loop + variable z) from Mark on here. it is amazing. So +1 for Barge Concepts.
That sounds like a great pedal. I could really do with something like that for my board.
-
Barge Concepts The VFB can be picked up pretty cheap and it won't muck up your tone, it does just what it's meant to do. The feedback loop is an interesting part of the pedal, if you've got a fuzz and a delay in the loop you can get some great feedback tones.

In 10 years of owning a TU2 it never occurred to me that it could be used as a signal splitter. That's quite a handy thing to bare in mind when putting together a pedal board
If you google Jenny Lee Lindberg theres rather a good pic of eh.. some parts.
that stuff isn't suitable for people who browse BC in work, but it's a fiiiine picture.
