1.
So is this cheaper than hiring a musician to play the keyboard parts? Now there's an interesting slant on the 'backing tracks' debate - "Lets have backing tracks but lets have enough 'musicians' on stage that nobody knows we're using them."
An ex missus used to have to mime a lot, usually for TV appearances as part of a string section. It was a struggle to get musicians rates despite having to bring her own instrument.
 2.
B5 does it again...posting stuff that I should own but don't..can you stop posting all these really cool videos..you're costing me a fortune...
Having the same problem, thought I'd got all this covered from listening to London's pirate soul radio stations in the 80s but B5 keeps putting me onto stuff I haven't got
 3. Yikes! I'm never buying anything second hand again.
 4. Yup, that old mistake. Expecting an eBay listing to be accurate.
 5.
should really be agg-gui-larr... gui as in guitar. Same with Cristina Aguilera. I guarantee you she does not pronounce her own surname "agg-wee-lera"
I always thought it was Christina Gorilla. Ah well, you live and learn.
 6.
I remember speaking to Pete at Howard's Bass Place once and he was talking about the black hardware on Status basses going green and yellow over time. Very strange!
Oddly I've got a wooden Energy and a couple of Series 1 Matrix all with black hardware and they look as good now as they did when I got them in 1992. Ironically it maybe because I rarely polish my basses.
 7.
So is Hartke. Hartk, Hart K, Hart, Hark, Hartkey ??? As for Warwick, I guess if you English its Warwick, if your American its Waar wick.
Pretty sure it's Hartkey As Warwick is German maybe it should be Varvick?
 8.
Miss Myrtle is mine !
Congratulations, one of the best looking S2s ever!
 9.
I forgot to go back to the stand in the far corner with the basses with enormous PUPs and loads of switches (for quick changers in sound P->Rick if I overheard sort of correctly). Anyone got anymore dets on that at all?
Was that the Enfield basses on the Sims stand? http://www.enfieldguitars.com/
 10.
Yeah, I'll see if I can swing it. Not sure how much it'll cost and no way of telling how much £ we'll have spare (spending a lot on some neat developments here on site). Perhaps I can blag a free table somewhere!
Maybe just sneak in a large basschat poster, and post on here that anyone at the show can meet up there every hour. It'll publicise the site too.
 11.
Ooh. Whats that then? The new parametric eq? Any more details?
I think you've still got volume and pickup blend, then a coil tap switch for each pickup. The smaller knobs are Bass, Treble, Parametric EQ1 boost/cut and frequency centre, Parametric EQ2 boost/cut and frequency centre. But I'm not sure which of the smaller knobs controls what. Any other switches control the LEDs plus an additional LED colour selector knob on some basses. Seems a bit over the top to me, although the original semi parametric preamp in the Status basses seemed over complicated at first but is actually really useful.
 12. Best Jaco bassline ever! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yReDe5-rTIU Edit: Youtube clip with less scratches.
 13. Surprised how much classier that looks, very nice!
 14. Had a quick chat with him yesterday at the Spector stand, seems like a top bloke!
 15.
Is it really Mani though? I hope so, that'd be ace.
No, I'm Mani...... and so is my wife. Loved the basslines on Second Coming, very nice!
 16. I used to aim to have the capability to cut through if the song needed it by digging in harder or playing closer to the bridge, but most of the time I'd stay in the background. Whether that came through for the audience is anyone's guess. My Status preamps have a handy switch that boosts the mids by about 6db, plus a knob to set the frequency centre. Really handy for instantly adding a little presence without fundamentally changing anything.
 17. Good stuff, thanks for posting!
 18. Depends what genre of music you play, anything in a horn key then it often comes in handy. If you're playing guitar based stuff it's less necessary. I voted Essential although I sometimes like the challenge of adapting my lines to work on 4 string.
 19.
Well, its taken 20 or so basses and various amps, cabs and combos but at the end of the day there is only one bass sound... A Fender Precision through a valve amp (or, at least, a valve pre) into a 15 cab (or preferably a 2x15). I will concede that a Fender Jazz might be acceptable - and a 2x10 can open up that 15 tone a little - but basically what Leo got right in '51 is still right today! Kevlar body armour in place for all the comments that this post will generate!!
Composite armour sounds too bright and clicky when people throw things at you, you just can't get that warm thumpy sound out of them. After 20 years of annoying people I've gone back to a good old fashioned tin suit of armour, basically what they got right in medieval times.
 20. And make sure no iron filings find their way into the pots..... Bass is looking good though, a few years of no polishing will take the shine off the hardware and start to build up some crud in the nooks and crannies.
 21.
This, but go over the headstock very lightly first with some fine wire wool. That dulls the gloss coat and will give something for the tea to "take" to. It can work, but its very hit and miss. But if nothing else its an excuse for a cuppa!
Might need to go extra careful with the wire wool in case the new finish isn't completely hardened yet.
 22. Pickguard looks a bit too shiny, going over it with wire wool will take the shine off and cover it in tiny scratches. But take it off the bass first or your pickups will forever be covered in iron filings! To look more road worn leave the area under the strings fairly unscratched, but focus the scratches around the top of the pickup where your thumb rests and maybe below the G and D strings where you'd get your fingers in playing slap. You may be able to match up the wear on the original white pickguard that came off.
 23.
How would I go about with using teabags or brown shoe polish, when neither will stick to the clear lacquer on the head stock. I have both items here at home and would love to try them out.
Strings and preferably hardware off the neck Make a cup of tea, keep the tea bag. Squeeze most of the water out of it, rub it carefully over the headstock to get good coverage Make another cup of tea, keep the teabag, stand back and assess the results Repeat if necessary. I've never tried it, and you may find the effect wears off after a while leaving the bits of the headstock that come into contact things (like your bass case) becoming paler than the rest. A real vintage instrument usually ends up with these bits darker.
 24. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Lx1FNpICro Buy her the Plantation Lullabies CD and you'll be in like Flynn.
 25. Some less reputable antique dealers use teabags to age the wood.
