1. I've just put some half wound Status Hot Wires on my fretless, they're basically roundwound strings with the outside windings smoothed off to make them feel like flatwounds. (Some manufacturers call them "Groundwounds" I think) They're generally brighter than flatwounds but probably not as bright as normal roundwound strings so they still might not be to your taste. The Hot Wires seem to be a quality string and are the smoothest I've ever played, but they have a darker tone than some other makes with a strong fundamental tone and not many overtones. Sounds good on a graphite neck but maybe too dark on a wood neck. If you're not damaging your fingerboard then there's less reason for you to change if you're happy with your sound.
 2. Thanks for the welcome everyone!
Welcome from me too. Don't concern yourself too much with dieting - we already have a Rich on here.
Got to start losing weight soon, if I get much fatter I'll need special long straps and to evolve chimp arms so I can reach my bass.
 3.
A stunning trio! Those burst finishes are lovely - would have been from around '90/'91 I would estimate!
Thanks Doc! I should have given them a bit of a polish before I snapped them, the picture doesn't really do them justice. Apart from some finger wear around the top of the pickups they're still in pretty much mint condition. I did add Bartolini TBTs to them as the original circuits were very noisy hence the Empathy style control layouts, they originally had a stacked bass / treble and no switch. They're definitely from '93, I've still got the receipts from the Bass Centre! The blue 5 stringer was one of the second batch given to the press and was reviewed in Guitarist in March '93 (can be found in the resources section of the Statii website if your interested). (Egad! - 68 basses - I don't feel so bad about ordering a couple of S2 classics now!)
 4. Here are a few more, a couple of '93 Series 1s and an Energy from a few years later:

 6. I've a feeling my Status 5 string calls me "Talentless", the fretless calls me "Tone Deaf" and my old Fender jazz calls me "Ol' Sausage Fingers".
 7. Hi All Just getting back into playing bass after a long layoff, it seems to be taking me ages to get my fingers working again.... Dug out my old early 90s Status Series 1s and a couple of late 80s Japanese Fenders and dusted them off, one of the necks on the Fenders seems pretty twisted but the Statii came out of the bags still in tune and ready to go (apart from a battery leak in one). I've an old Hartke rig in my spare room but I can't get to it for all the junk so I'm not sure if it still works.... probably 12 years since I last fired it up. Have been lurking on this forum for a few weeks now, seems like a cool bunch of people hanging out here. Some great posts on here that have got me listening to different artists / songs and it's proving to be a great way to stretch my ears. It's nice to just learn basslines for fun without the pressure (and the politics) of being in a band at the moment, but maybe I'll get the urge to annoy the public with my playing sometime. I used to play fingerstyle only but I'm starting to learn slap style (a Status owner who can't slap and has no Level 42 albums - sacrilege!) and also with a pick after watching a Bobby Vega clip on youtube. And I really should learn some music theory too while I'm at it. With youtube, online bass lessons and downloadable bass tabs for most tunes it's a lot quicker to get things under your fingers these days, so really looking forward to getting stuck in. Cheers! Rich
