3.
Well, if my wrist Op has been a success and I can play again, I'm having a PJ. They look really good and easy to upgrade.
Already done. My only quibble is that the tuner holes are a bit north of where they should be, other than that, the neck is pretty good. Although I've replaced it...
4. I'll add to that the fact that reissues and vintage are also a waste of time in my book. I just buy something current, say a MIM or MIA Fender, mod it if required, then gig it. I love basses, but they are also tools to be used.
5.
Do it the authentic way. Buy a nice new bass and then gig it for 40 years. To me that is the only way to relic a bass.
This.
6. I bought a PJ recently as the basis for my main gigging bass. Neck, pickups, and shortly the wiring also. However, it was a good bass before modding and the fiver is giving me GAS!
7. Another happy Hercules user here too. They've never failed to support me if I have any problems. I use mic and instrument stands, and they're pretty damn bombproof.
8. Was contacted about this myself, but already committed. Will hope to do it next year!
9. Then come and rock out with The Rock n Roll Outlaws at the Ship Inn this Friday! Then on Saturday, we'll be raising the roof off the Courthouse Bar of the Arundel Arms Hotel in Lifton! Much classic rock goodness guaranteed!
10. It's not s huge issue, so far as I'm aware, except with some LaBellas. I have used TI Jazz Flats on everything, top-loaded or STB. Never a problem.
11. My, how inaccurate that last post seems now...30° today!
12. Standard pub type gig at Callington Cricket Club. Absolutely heaving, and a great time had by all. We plated well and really got into it. Much sweat abd encores!
13. I've played for over 6 years now with The Rock n Roll Outlaws. Rock covers and originals. www.facebook.com/therocknrolloutlaws New project:a bluesy female fronted 6-piece called, I kid you not, Dick's Green Granny...not up and running yet.
14. In that case, Bert, hope the health issues are sorted soon, and you can enjoy the loveliness that is Barefaced!
15. Lovely!
16.
Markbass and Schroeder. Not "old" classic, but a combination that seems quite popular (or did). P bass and flats. now this i dont get. Ive got them, i occasionally play them but i cant see the fascination in this set up. Its dull and lifeless. It seems the (mainly) Americans think you HAVE to have flats on a P bass, going by the amount of talk over on TB.
While I don't think you HAVE to have flats on a P, I'll jump right in and say that since I have put them on, they are all I now use. But I'm thinking they have to be the right flats. They are a long way from being all the same.
17. I've had my Super 15 for a few months now. What can I say? It's LOUD! It sounds lovely! The whole 500W rig weighs 59lb! I always wanted a 2x15, and now I have a good one that I can carry with impunity, bad back and all! All hail Alex Claber and all who sail in him!
18.
The rig-less approach is probably fine if you are playing in a larger venue through a PA with decent stage monitors and you trust the sound engineer, or you are in a pro band playing with high quality in ear monitors or whatnot, but if you are playing down the old Cock and Pullet then you probably won't have such luxuries at your disposal... I use some amp modelling and quite a lot of effects through my markbass/barefaced big one setup - its an exceptionally clean amp/cab combo so most of my 'tone' comes from the bass/effects etc, but ultimately I like to be able to control my onstage level and tweak the tone accordingly. Its also a ridiculously lightweight rig so moving it is a doddle tbh. Also I don't generally lend my gear out. Its not a problem for what I do, although in principle I agree with you.
Basically, this, although I don't use any effects or modelling. Pub gigs need backline. Simples.
19. Yup, that's an answer I'd like to hear!
20. Used in anger for the first time, going through the CMD121H at an audition for a new band. Sounded great, no feedback issues at that volume, and impressed the hell out of me, and the other band members seemed to like it too. I got the gig!
21. Ahhhhh, , nothing like a healthy dose of grammar and spelling pedantry to get the juices flowing!
