I would agree with your finding that strings tend to go with basses. I'm also presuming that one is passive, the other active, so processing of the strings' output is very different. As I only use passive basses, I've found that I can use the same strings across all of them (it helps that they are all varieties of Precision!).

My '96 is that pale lemon yellow. And the neck is a long way from the tree trunk that was on the Sting I had. Only slightly fatter, front-to-back, than the very thin neck on my MIM P...which is exceptionally flat.

What Deep Thought said, but in 1992! We did get to Daytona, though! Also 56, playing for longer than I care to think about, but resolutely stuck on Precisions! Markbass, though? The way to go. Great amps.

Probably best to look at the wiring - maybe a connection came off, in which case, easy fix with a soldering iron, so long as you can see where the wire came from. Samson uses a AAA, the bass unit uses a brick. The AAAs last three gigs, not a great expense. I will NEVER use an active bass. If I need that much output, I simply plug in the humbucking Telecaster Bass...

The black MIM is not dissimilar to yours - love it. The Squier VM P TB is 'pimped' insofar as it has slightly better machines, a proper string tree, and the bridge cover. The 51 is not really a budget item, although not that pricey...pimped with covers and tugbar.
