1. Practice- right hand speed is pretty mechanical IME. Start slow and work up to your target speed . Try and use as little effort as possible for each stroke- pluck softly and turn the amp up to compensate if necessary. Hope that helps.
2. Unless they've expanded or have more than one stage, then the answers are small, not much and I don't know, respectively. Never played there and only been there once that I can recall, but it's definitely... cosy.
3. It can also be good to check yourself against- more than a few times I've only realised that I've been playing a rhythm wrong when I've sat down with a metronome.
4. I find pain in my fingers can often be traced back to tension in the upper arm and shoulder- maybe worth getting a massage or checking with a physio if there's more strain than needed there. This can be worse if you use a computer a lot.
5. That's pretty spectacular. It looks more like ivory than holly!
6. Dunno if it's the same guy but there's an Eric Czar who used to post on SevenString.org. He appears to be banned now, although I can't see why?
7. Where abouts in the country are you?
8. Well, that's the nicest Strat I've ever laid eyes on.
9. That's a fantastic price for a great guitar. I had one of these, it was a shred machine and I paid over twice what you're asking.
10. As with most things, it depends on what your goals are. For the bands I play with (link in sig) technique is important because I need to play pretty fast and reasonably intricate lines quite a lot to be appropriate. It's just as much of a fallacy to assume that simple is always best as to assume that lots of notes is always best. More technique gives you more options; if you're happy with the options you have then it's not a problem.
11. Another +1 for Reaper here. I record using Reaper and the basic input/output sockets on my laptop (via an external mixer) which is fine for demos etc.
12. I use light gauge Elixirs on all four of my basses (.040-.125, I think) including a mixed guitar/bass set on my 7 string. I like them because I don't have to worry about changing strings and the sound seems consistent for longer. Punchy without being clanky.
13. Digging the mood lighting.
14. I don't know, but I can't imagine it being very useful- my low B on a ~43" scale (4/4) is not exactly a beacon of definition. Curious to see whether you come up with anything though.
15. Sorry, you seem to have missed one out- there was no clip of the full 5x15 rig that was clearly visible there?
16.
HD means high definition: this applies to audio as much as visual surely?
Yes, but in a visual context HD has a clearly defined objective meaning, while here it's meaningless marketing speak!
17. Heh, the dude from Mnemic is a beast. Re: frequencies below 30hz, you can (in theory) amplify them (see the thread about the Prodigy's PA for some more discussion) but you need lots of power and lots of speaker area, and in practice it tends to be all mushy if you try and make it all about the fundamentals. Most of the sound of the strings is made up of higher harmonics. To be honest, if I was playing with guitars tuned below B I would probably do as Meshuggah do and play the bass line in the same octave- trying to do the octave down thing just seems like a lot of hassle to me (although certainly possible if that's what you want).
18.
You've got a piccolo bass. I have a five string double bass that is strung EADGC so yours is just like it without the low E.
No he doesn't- it's an octave down from that (i.e. the bottom four strings of a BEADG five string set tuned down a tone).
19. Agedhorse, I think that should be.
20.
The 9.0 seems to have some extra lows.
One of the designers confirmed this on TalkBass- the 3.0 and the 6.0 are both limited in the low end (the 3.0 more so than the 6.0) to make them more efficient.
21. Circle K strings.
22. Hmm. Do you know what the scale length is?
23. Yes, I suspect the 'tone goals' of The Prodigy and your average bassist are probably a bit different- they probably do want that intestine rupturing, skull exploding bass rather than a clear articulate bass tone.
24. The Pod X3 series are "non-denominational" in that they cater to both guitarists and bassists (and vocalists, to a certain extent). I'm curious to get more details about the new units.
