...and funnily enough Drums and Wires has been mentioned as a future album for the us 👍
-
I don't think it's just about formative years, it's more about emotional attachment in one way of another, even to songs that you first hear way past your formative years (although I think all years are formative, so let's say 'youth'). In June we gigged an album that I had listened to a few times and generally disliked, Beck's Odelay. It was a tricky one to play and we rehearsed it for around five months, about three months longer than it usually takes us to get an album down. I hadn't listened to it since, but I put in on yesterday and it felt like coming home in the same way as the music of my youth does, I heard all the magical nuances that I'd never noticed before we learned iit, and realised that the album had moved into 'that' space for me 👍

This latest 400RB came with a cab too, a 4ohm 212MBE. It's well used, but working well via the speakon. It's missing part of the 1/4" input jack socket, ie the bit that screws in from the outside of the panel. It has clearly become loose and then lost. I've been through my spares and don't have anything. Long shot - Does anyone have a spare, or can point me to the right part? The socket inside is PCB mounted to the board and appears to be fine. Rob

The version I linked has been edited where Sire sends Grigor replacement parts that fix the issue. SRMS806. Got it at a corker of a price. Should get it in a week or so. I wanted the BTB, but the SR in mint condition was about 1/2 the best price I could get the BTB for, which is about what my fave bass store reckons the M6 will be when they arrive. I couldn't try the BTB before buying though and returns for change of mind are far fewer in the colonies.

I'd concur with music from our formative years having a lasting effect on us, which us why I continue to enjoy certain periods of Japan, Queen, Sparks, Mott The Hoople, Sweet, Rich Kids, Cheap Trick etc. Coming to XTC at 40 years old made things a little different; the music doesn't etch itself into your psyche like it would have done when you're 15 years old, so it's genuinely harder work. The beauty here is also the wealth of additional content available if you want to do a deep(er) dive; Steven Wilson's curated reissues (and 5.1/Atmos mixes) are sublime.

I’d post this in the Repairs & Technical forum - the folk that frequent it are likely to offer some solutions and it’s more likely to get noticed and addressed there. -
Interestingly, here's a video from the Croydon gig from a couple of nights ago, with the Videographer obviously at the front, catching more of the bass rig, and much less of the full PA mix. The pink JayDee sounds pretty good here...

Just so many great basslines - and there's another!

I particularly like their ‘evil beach boys’ avatar. Best demonstrated in the amazing ‘Miniature Sun’. They’re top tier.

Selling this TC Electronic Spark Booster Pedal as I'm not longer using it. A great multi-functional pedal, works as a boost, tone enhancer, subtle driver which can add low to mid levels of grit, and comes with nicely voiced bass and treble knobs. The bass control is voiced a bit higher than usual bass preamps so it never gets boomy or muddy, and the treble adds some nice airiness to your tone. The mid settings boosts mids to cut through or get a nice grind with the gain set high, or into another distortion pedal. Collection in Norfolk or shipment at buyer's expense, thanks for looking. Product Features from the TC Website Powerful booster pedal with gain control and active EQ kicks your playing into high gear Impressive 26 dB of completely clean boost makes your core tone shine through Dedicated gain knob adds dirt and grit to vastly expand your tonal palette Two-band active EQ with toggle switch lets you precisely sculpt your tone Level control knob gives you versatility to go for a pristine boost or drive your amps to peak performance True bypass allows for optimum clarity and zero high-end loss when the pedal is off Simple and intuitive user interface lets you focus on playing Easy one-screw battery compartment access Sturdy die-cast metal case designed for life on the road

Is that a 5 and 4 Sire M6 you're referring to Kev, as opposed to the Cort Space or EHB that have come into the discussion ? -

Yup, XTC are titans in my book. Moulding is a legend as a player and a writer. He might not like the adulation but that doesn’t alter the fact that he’s totally brilliant.

**price drop £80.00** The “Bass Star Fazer” is a 4 phase stage bass phaser with a quartet of matched transistors. The two control knobs allow you to dial in depth and rate giving you a clean, smooth super phasing effects. The purple halo light ring installed diffuses the light when playing live, avoiding being blinded by the standard LEDs just as you are about to go into that all important solo thus giving a larger area to see where the pedal is located easily on the pedal board on darkened stages. The addition of the aluminium foot topper gives you more real estate for contact when switching the pedal on and off during quick changes when playing live. All Flattley “Platinum Range” pedals are hand processed in our Flattley paint shop. The bare aluminium enclosure is abraded prior to painting with the etch primer. The etch primer acts as a anti corrosive layer and allows the primer to bond to the enclosure ensuring a tough resilient paint finish. Multiple coats of base coat primer are applied which are then lightly abraded to remove any blemishes or paint speckles prior to the application of the base colour. We apply several coats of base colour until an even coverage occurs and the base colour develops rich smooth depth. Metallic holographic chrome flake is then applied using a clear inter coat which adds that all important Flattley sparkle. The pedal enclosure is now ready to be hydro dipped in its Flattley graphics. This is the process whereby the graphics are applied using water activated film, the residual PVA film is then washed off and the enclosure is then allowed to dry naturally. Once dried the lacquer process begins. Each “Flattley Platinum” pedal has a minimum of three coats of lacquer which are all wet sanded between coats. Once the lacquer has hardened, it is then hand polished using three different grades of polishing compounds and it then has a final polish to achieve a high gloss finish using a wool finishing pad. This process gives the smooth deep lustre finish that is inherent in all Flattley Guitar and Bass effects pedals. Excellent condition, comes in original box with instructions and sticker, Velcro's on the bottom of the unit. Thanks for looking.

Many thanks for that. I've already seen this Video - commented on it yesterday replying to Headless Bassist's post.... ''And Frank Itt seems to slap the Sire M6 pretty well on the Bass the World review. Just not sure about those Tuners though, as Gregor is quick to point out!'' Just out of interest which headed MS did you go for. Was it an Ibby BTB by any chance ? -

Absolutely! You can't sum up XTC in one track because they are so musically diverse. At least listen to the sublime bass line on Mayor of Simpleton before writing them off 😉😂

Blockhead bass. Excellent condition. Plays superbly. Nice low action. Great tone. Been my main bass for a while but I’ve just bought my possible forever bass so I’m selling a couple. They’re too good to be sat at home doing nothing. If you want any more info don’t hesitate. Collection or a meet up please.

This is a beautiful custom made bass by andyjr1515. It is a PJ design with a chambered alder body and camphor burl top. There is a thread in the build diaries section. If I knew how to link it I would. All the details are on there. I have changed the electrics to Seymour Duncan pickups and I put a pickup selector in rather than the blend pot that was originally there. I also fitted an Aguilar OBP-2 Preamp so it’s all top notch stuff. There a ton of different sounds available. It’s in really good condition and plays great. The neck is very Warwick like in feel with possibly the thickest chunk of ebony I’ve ever seen for the fretboard. It’s also very light and well balanced. Comes with a gig bag. I would prefer either collection or a meet up. If you require any more details don’t hesitate to contact me or check the build diary.

I shall do, following this enthusiastic recommendation. Much music is, I believe, of its time, by which I mean the time of the listener. Stuff heard and enjoyed in one's formative (y...)ears has a much more lasting effect; hearing the same music later has a quite different impact on the listener. Memories, souvenirs, experiences have been formed, of which the music played a part. There is music for the occasion, too; styles one may not usually choose to listen to could be very suitable in different circumstances. In general, I would say that I have quite wide tastes, but, still in general, I usually need to make some 'sense' of what I'm hearing (not to be confused nor conflated with 'understanding'...). I get auditively bored with much hyper-repetitive 'funk' (I'm not a dancer, so that aspect escapes me...), and, as a drummer, the Big Beat 'Disco' 'One-One-One-One' lasts barely a few seconds before the Off-switch is thrown. I'm not phased, either by novelty for novelty's sake; something 'new' has no particular advantage over past offerings per se (but are not excluded either, if I find merit...). Gimmicks, gadgets, hooks... have their place, but need to be pretty darned solid to gain a repeat audition. OK, enough... I'll dive into the Fossil Fuel (topical, being an old Fossil myself..!) and put it down to experience if I come to regret it. Back later... (But that Roads thing was quite far 'out there', musically, and reading through the badly-'sung' lyrics did nothing to endear it to me ...) Edit : OK, to be kind, I'll just say 'Unimpressed', and leave it there.
