ID this Fender "P" 5 string bass

Saw this and quite fancied one for a backup 5 string. Not seen these before though. Will contact the seller at some point, but thought I'd ask on here first.

Well, apart from it not being a Fender bass, or a precision bass of any kind, and it seems the seller has copied somebody else's listing photos I'd say it was as straight as a die

This has a "TradeTang" watermarked image. That's a pretty smokey gun there.

Edit: Look at the items he's been selling. Fair few items where it is common for fakes to be sold on ebay.

Here's the reply to my fairly detailed questions about the bass:

"Hi, thank you very much for your detailed enquiry.

I hadn't seen this one before either, but on asking the question to my supplier, unfortunately it seems we've missed the boat on this model as it has now gone.

I'm sourcing an alternative now, but if you would like me to look for a specific type, colour, make, style, I can do the leg work for you.

Please drop me a reply asap as I will need to end this item today."

Mmmm....there were 5 in stock yesterday when I made the enquiry.........they must have all ran out the shop like street traders when they heard the sirens!

Quite often when it's "Amazing what people will try", it's because the law isn't being enforced. I've reported counterfeit listings. Providing that the listing itself doesn't say that it's a copy, ebay generally (in my experience) won't pull it. I've emailed Gibson and other companies about fakes (on one of my particularly ornery days), and I get a nice email back, but the auction doesn't get pulled. Given the huge amount of fakery on the web, particularly ebay, it seems quite rare to hear of someone being arrested for it. So, if none of the gatekeepers are doing a very good job keeping fakes at bay, it's not surprising that many people go for the easy profits involved.
