Indeed, I'm still looking for the right P-bass for me.

im pretty satisfied with my jag for a good jazz bass tone. Although ts got a load of switches and a naff preamp it does the standard jazz bass tone very well.

How are you with Rics?
Only played a poorly set up Ric about 12 years ago and never got to plugging it in.

I absolutely love how they look....and I quite like the tone.

My issue with them is how many people get them brand new with bad finishes, things out of place, and general problems. They cant all be like that though, so id love to try a really good one.
Really though how different can a Classic be to my EB? Mine is in need of a setup which I think will make more of a difference when its done on tuesday.

What about this? 2 band, mutes and well known as great age for necks half the price of a Classic!
Totally off topic I know :) .

How high is the action on your bass ?

I've got a '96 natural Stingray 4. I've tried to fit the mutes but the screw things that hold the mutes down catch on the strings. I do have the action very low on my bass. It only happens if I try to raise the mutes so that they touch the strings.

My EB does not have mutes,It sounds like the foams have shrunk and the screw is coming up to high? I need a set for my pre EB as one is missing and the others are dried out I beleive they are available from EB as replacements for the Classic ray (It does have a use then,Just kidding!)but I have not looked into it yet,The other option is to cut up a mouse mat into the right size pads.I dont think its an action problem as the pad should touch before the screw whatever the setup.

Still OT sorry, my EB has never been touched in 8 years and I think the time has come to truss the neck back a touch rather than lowering at the bridge saddles as I cant see how they would ever move?My pre outplays it big time at the moment but Im glad Im missing the EB and looking forward to getting it done next week as when I first got the pre I did think about selling the EB but the fact its a ray but different is good IMO I just want to set them up exactly the same so they fall to hand nicely and the EB is too high.

This thread should be banned, my gas is to high, I may explode.

I want ray, I don't want to spend ray money, not even used money, I want a project, I don't want a olp project, I want string mutes, I don't really need another ray sounding bass, but right now it's all I like.

I'm gonna see how well I get on with my next P-bass and if it goes well I'll mod that but who knows, there are some really nice used rays and one on the bay with the classic bridge. So I don't bloody know what I'll do with my cash.....

IMO, a Ray, a P and a J are exactly the tones ive been after since I started listening to the bass guitar. Cannot go wrong with any of them.

There is a certain 'feel' and effortless 'ommph' with a Stingray that no other bass can match, and thats why I go back to them. Sometimes the tone is a little OTT, but as Ive found recently, a set of flats and a treble cut makes ALL the difference.

Thumb resting on single H, plus that great neck profile, is perfect for fingerstyle.

I totally agree.
All my tone tweaks are on my bass, I know how to play to get acreasonably softer tone out of my SUB but even if it's not enough, it's easyier to role back the treble than to touch my amp.

However, on topic ; To add another ingredient to the concoction, what about pickups? Personally I think you should grab a 2EQ HS, as I think the double bucker rays need that mid control, the neck bucker is too high, and I've found to be a bit muddy, and the mid is great for risking in the tone again.

are you getting one of the special offer black/rosewood 2EQs or paying more for a vintage sunburst with case?

btw, just seen this and thought of you and the whole white/tort thing

seriously you need to try an SB-2 someday if you haven't already. This time last year I had a USA SB-2, an MIA 08 blizzard pearl Precision Std and a MIM classic 60s white/tort Jazz all at the same time. The G&L was better than both the Fenders at their respective sounds imo and even though the fenders were both great basses I got shot of both of them and didnt miss them at all (the SB-2 had been factory modded with a tone control). Then this year I inexplicably sold the SB-2 which was the dumbest bass sale I ever made. I'd seriously love another and the blue Tribute SB-2 that has just come up FS on here has given me the first bout of serious GAS in ages

I'm hoping for a quote on the burst but if it's too much I'll be getting a black/rosewood.

That SB2 is lovely but I'd need that tone control,

Hmm

I seem to be finding that the 2EQ models I want are actually MORE expensive than some of the 3EQs, and the 3EQs have cases. Im not talking about the offer basses at £999 here. Im actually trying to stay away from black even though a Ray looks great in black.

I bet ill end up with 2 3EQs!

You know it makes sense to have a 2EQ if you can get one with the case aswell.
No point having two of the same bass....

I am blown away with my 2EQ. Tonally it is 1000 x better than the two 3EQ's I had. I can't get a bad tone out of my 2EQ where as I struggled to get a good tone out of either of my 3EQ's. Its so good than I am thinking of selling my Warwick Corvette as my MIA Precision, ESP Jazz and 2EQ Stingray are all I need now.
What colour did you go for?
I didn't want the cheaper black/red/blue ones, plus I wanted the proper case with it. Highly padded bags are great but I don't use them for storing my basses, just for rehearsals when car space is low.

So, I've got what I've always wanted. a Stingray 2EQ in Vintage Sunburst with black plate and rosewood board. EBMM sunbursts and natural finishes are quite expensive but after seeing a sunburst the other day, it HAD to be mine :)

I'll have a comparison video on my to do list now.

same here, I was so close to buying one of the £1,000 ones, great value considering how much s/h ones are, but it's the colours that put me off too and a new bass isn't just for christmas.

.....if only they had honeyburst.... :)

Check the bass porn under my thread for a pic of one of my new Rays. The others are yet to arrive.

VERY happy Ive got at least one 2 band. This thing looks and sounds sooooo good!

Im glad I went with a normal ray and the Classic if im honest. This bass looks like a modern-classic anyway.

Punchy and FAT!
