Band drought.. I'll play anything, honestly!

Just wondering if there were many of you guys out there who were at a similar point - I left a band, well, it crumbled, and now I'm looking to write some of my own stuff, bit of rock/prog/punk but I just KNOW it's going to be hell getting some stable musicians with a similar passion.

Every just thrown your ambitions out the window and joined any old band- just to play some live music?

Kind of in a similar situation HMX. Was punted from my last band in October for reasons which were never properly explained (7 1/2 years together, one e-mail informing me of the decision), and after a bit of a break I'm really looking forward to getting out and playing again. However, so far I'm getting naff all response from most of the people I've contacted! Why advertise for a bass player, and then not even bother to reply - even if only to say 'thanks but no-thanks'?

Presently I shall become vexed with the situation.

Constantly, that's how I ended up in 3 bands, none of which play anything I really like... good to see another Devon based bassist round. I'm playing in the bowling green tomorrow night.

I used to play in a few bands back when I was in college, only one or two at a time now though and usually different genres of music.

I do want to join another band at the moment, but the bands I'm in currently play a pretty wide variety of styles, so I don't know what I'd do, maybe metal or R&B or something..

Oh, good stuff. What band do you play in, and is that Exeter - I'm not too familiar with local venues (I'm a northerner at heart).

I'd drop by but I only finish work at 8:30PM.

Yep similar position here. Left a band back in the summer and haven't been able to find people to work with on anything original.

Got asked by a friend of a friend to start working on some soul/pop covers for a brithday party gig and have got a first jam/rehearsal tonight. Not really what I want to be playing but excited to be playing with a band again.

It is in Exeter (not sure exactly where yet, haven't looked at a map yet) starting about 9ish I think, called Spaced Invaders, it's an 80s electro/new romantic tribute thing, not my cup of tea to be honest, but the basslines are surprisingly fun to play, and it pays.

Yeah, really been struggling to find a band to join to do original stuff with. Driving me a bit bonkers to be honest. I really know what I want to do which is some kind of acoustic folk pop with female vocals and a slight jazzy feel at time. Like hell if I can find anything like that.

Yup been there...in fact am in that place right now!

I left a folk-rock band that I started after 4 years due to various reasons. After a while it was pretty obvious that There weren't many people around that were into this sort of thing, so I decided that any band was better than no band.

I'm now playing in a sleazy/glam/ 70's rock 'n' roll outfit called Iron Python, and I have to say, I'm loving it! Not the kind of thing I would ever listen to out of choice, but I love learning songs I've heard before but never played. And we don't take it too seriously, so its all good fun.

My thoughts? Try it, you might like it!
