Ebay is the way to go for these little blighters, I got a mint condition one for £35 delivered a few months ago. I really like it, especially running it into a BDDI, but have no way of recording sound clips unfortunately.

Luckily he's on the ball ^ :)

I paid full price for one of these about 5 years ago, worth every penny though. I tried lots of other bass distortion and they all dropped out in volume with a full band set up. Not this though. It gives you a wall of distortion and you can still hear the Bass notes. Awesome pedal.
Listen to the Karnivool album Sound Awake, as Jon Stockman uses an XXL in a fair bit of that I think. The song Simple Boy is a fav of mine.
Love that album!

Jon Stockman uses a Tech 21 XXL but as part of a rather intricate set up to create his monster dirty sound. The XXL is certainly a strong flavour in the sound. But of you saw his pedal set up -

- you'd see he runs multiple pedals at once, as well as a heavily driven ampeg sound to get it.

Id describe the XXL as a very aggressive overdrive rather than a distortion as it's often called. I've owned and sold 2, but am sure I'll go back to it again one day.

He uses Ashdown live. I spoke to him after the gig in Manchester in December. He said he only uses two dirt pedals, and which one depends on which bass he uses. I can't remember which way round it was, but for one bass he'd use the XXL, and for the other bass he'd use the ODB-3.

EDIT: And no clean blending with those.

Just played mine 'in anger' for the first time at rehearsal tonight. Awesome, exactly the sound I've been looking for (anyone who's followed my activities on the 'for sale' section knows that last year was a bit of a quest) for ages.

Fretless Jazz bass -- Tech 21 XXL -- Sansamp BDDI -- Ampeg SVP1550 -- Hartke 410 Hydrive cab.

Just lovely and dirty, but enough mids to detect pitch. I picked mine up fort £50, and it's brilliant - even though I paid slightly over the odds.
