BEST PEDAL FOR OLD SCHOOL SOUND WITH NEW AMPS

I've given up on old-school heavy valve amps, and now use
clear-sounding modern heads, like EBS TD650 and markbass LM-II.

while these sound fine with modern basses and roundwounds,
the new amps tend to sound a bit thin and sterile for my 70s P-bass with La Bella flats

so what's the best pedal to put in front of the new digital amps, to add some tube-like warm fatness?
(think Duck Dunn's Stax sound). I'm guessing this might be a common question, but can't find the
relevant thread

Some options I'm thinking of are the Sansamp DI box with drive function;
or EBS valvedrive; or the newer Sansamp VT -
so how do these compare for my particular purpose?

I'm not looking for major distortion and nasties, just for warm fatness a la Stax bass sound

thanks for any advice

+1 on the SFT. I have a VT Bass, and the SFT trumps it for old school motown / funk tones using a P-Bass and flats (the VT wins for grind with roundwounds though). I've owned an EBS Valvedrive and DHA VT1 before also, they would all do a fine job (EBS sounds more old skool between the 2).

You might want to wait for the newer version to come out.

Hi

Is there any more info out on this yet or a release date? The concept is exactly what I'm looking for. Google and tech 21 website doesn't appear to be doing me any favours!

I use a SansAmp BassDriver DI in front of my Markbass LMK when I want an old school sound (I'm playing a P-bass with Rotosound Tru-bass nylon flats) - it does a great job I think. And it'll deliver fearsome crunch and grit if you ever decide you want that too. But for simple, old school warmth it's ideal.

i dont really hear that many people go on about these, but i have a line 6 bass floor pod- i know the purists mightnt be keen, but honestly, i would suggest you give 1 a whirl.....great for practice at home too and to get a quick, decent sound if you are wanting to record any ideas etc
