Drum N Bass/Dubstep

I'd love to have more money to sink into this kind of thing. There are some awesome DnB sounds that I'd love to try to recreate if I had the spare cash for the pedals.

That's one of them. Dubtastic! :)

Its just when you start getting into playing dub-step on your bass, that ou want to find a drummer and maybe a synth player, so then when your playing in the garage with them. It gives some kind of ability to be aloud to make to amke yourself broke by buying pedals. :) i don't even have a job atm but i do have a synth player and drummer.
Yea it can get real expensive real quick. Even Shep acknowledged that it would make little financial sense for a solely bedroom player to invest that heavily in effects.

I for one am happy with just my OC2 and Orbit... for now.
My board is insured for about £2k...

It's an expensive business...

Fat Burning Step video from a recent rehearsal - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2WakGtMMh4...be_gdata_player

Bond doing some pretty interesting stuff…

Bad news… I have had a play with some different routing and cleaning up my signal and due to some fantastic results it looks as though my board may be growing, just a little bit more :)

Most of it will be coming from the synth player - but also his MP-201 will be midi sync'd to the midi clock of the synth so he can use LFO's that run in perfect time with song. He does use an M9 for a few sounds etc too and as that can do an awful lot, it could be part of it.

Shep

EDIT - Just listened again - Sounds like it's all LFO through the MP-201 into the cutoff of the LPF. He's controlling the rate of LFO with his foot.
Thanx for xplanation :)

And what do you think abotu Behringer fm600 as a lpf? :)
I don't have any personal experience with it. The 1st LPF I ever tried was the Moog one and it's the one only one I've ever really used. I'm very happy with the sound so never really shopped around.

I'm sure the Behringer has been discussed on this thread (if not, then definitely somewhere in the effects forum) and from what I read, it seems it does a very good job, especially given it's very reasonable price point. Hopefully someone who has hands on experience will give some more input here for you.
That would be veary interesting. Because i cant find any info on internet or sound samples of fm600 on bass :)
Just had a look at it's details and as far ad I can see it doesn't have an expression input? Meaning the LPF would be either just set to a specific point or swept by the envelope it generates. I'd imagine it could do some good sounds, but you'd be unable to do any of the synth sweeps etc... Unless you can set the envelope speed as well as the cutoff, which I imagine you can't.

I'm told these are VERY good - http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/ironether/xerograph

Maybe - Difference is that the Enigma, like many pedals is predominantly an Envelope filter/Auto Wah, which can also be used for Low Pass/High Pass/Band Pass etc.

Pedals Like the Moog MF-101, Iron Ether etc are dedicated Low Pass Filters, that can also be used for envelope/Wah duties.

My experience has proven that you should use a Low Pass Filter of you need a Low Pass Filter, and an Envelope Filter for Envelope duties. It's generally a given that a pedal is generally better at exactly what it's designed for. As such I have an LPF and a Envelope Filter on my board.

If cost is the issue - Keep an eye on eBay, my Moog LPF was £110 on eBay, which is not much more than buying a EHX pedal like the Enigma.
Hm thanx :) Maybe you know any other low pass filters with exp input? Cant find :)
Just the Moog & the Iron Ether one off the top of my head. Oh, and I think you can do Low Pass with the M9/M13 and expression - Queue Dan Owens to clarify…?
Btw, have jus tlistened to your band  Nice tunes :D Gave it a Like in Facebook :P
Thanks bud, appreciate the feedback!

Yeah, there is a filter section that is controllable via an expression pedal. Just be aware of the pedal's taper (my main concern with the M9/13's expression duties).

TBH though, it isn't a great filter. The Resonance Q is a bit wide which means if you boost it to get a very pronounced sweep you can get into some very unmusical resonance peaks. The band-pass is fun to play with and I do use the LPF but it sucks compared to the MF101.
A line 6 m9 is defiantly on my list at the moment. I might not need all the options atm but i reckon i will. With a midi clock do you just take a line from my pedal board from somewhere or other. Lets say an m9 and then into the synth players setup?
Basically, you set a device as a master then send a clock feed to every other device. You can either daisy chain the slaves or get a MIDI splitter.

The most important point to think about is whether a device is happier as a master or a slave; for instance the Boss Loopers that have MIDI implementation don't work well as slaves. Thew Line 6 stuff apparently drifts with a clock whereas the Adrenalinn is happier as both slave and master.

MIDI is the most annoying fun you can have!

Stumbled on this track from it being in the current Renault Clio advert. Really liking it. Kinda Dubstep meets Massive Attack vibe going on...

Nice sidechain bass. I should try really slow release with my sidechain + bass drum trigger rig
