I just found the notation for this track on www.davemarks.com.
Its notated in Db - I can't post a link as I'm writing this on a blackberry.
Is it likely to really be in D but played detuned by a semitone to get more open strings?
Doesn't seem the easiest key when using standard tuning.

Hey guys - the guitarist plays the main riff with open strings and his guitar is tuned down a semitone.

So in this instance, it's a matter of matching up with him. Also, it makes it a little easier for the singer (a lot of GnR songs and Extreme - I remember from my teens - all tuned down a semitone)

d

Yep, he plays a lot of the songs on a detuned (by half step) bass. Says he does it becuase Brandon Flowers writes a lot of stuff in Eb.

That what he told me once, anyway... :)

We do it in Db and none of us downtune. Our guitarist is weird/clever/wrong (delete as applicable)

Me too. Saw them at Wembly in '92 I think, supporting Bryan Adams. Roger Daltrey came on as surprise guest during Extreme's set. Made my day that. Especially as my best mate's Dad went to see the same bill in Cardiff the following day but no Daltrey, damn shame as he is a huge Who fan.
