1. Sold to petergales...and it sounded great when he was trying it out!
 2. Replied to the PMs - will keep you all updated. Thanks especially to 72deluxe for all the info! My cab is Chinese made AFAIK and has two speakons and two 1/4in jack sockets on the back as well as the tweeter control. I'll be sad to see it go to be honest!
 3. Bump and a price drop. If anyone's interested and fancies making an offer, just let me know. I've always been really happy with this amp, but I don't do a lot of selling so I'm never sure how much to put stuff up for sale for. I could also help with local delivery if required as well - unlike the Warwick cab that I also have for sale, this fits in the boot of my car nicely.
 4. Bump and a price drop. I'm pretty clueless as to how much to ask for this so if anyone does fancy making an offer, you're more than welcome. I might be able to help out with local delivery as well if it helps, although this would be a lot easier to do for the Roland combo I have for sale, as I'm doubtful that the Warwick cab will fit in my car so I'd have to borrow my dad's car.

This amp has been perfect as a compact all in one solution and has been particularly useful due to the number of connections and range of tones it provides. I've used it for all sorts of work including theatre gigs, jazz gigs, big band gigs and function gigs both as a standalone and for monitoring whilst DI'd. It has also been a great amp for upright bass (which I've always got good results with straight into the amp using a K&K bass max), as well as bass guitar and punches well above its weight as far as volume is concerned. The ability to save a couple of settings as well as using it in manual mode like a regular analogue amp is very useful as well. It isn't super lightweight, so it's collection only, but it has always been a good compromise due to its relatively small size without being too small to cope in a full band situation. I'm in Guiseley, near Leeds.

It has always been very well looked after and has never been abused or pushed too hard so is in great condition. It has never missed a beat and I've always been impressed by the range of tones as well as it's ability to handle to low B and keep up in a loud setting. I've always used it with a little mark II and because it is an 8 ohm cabinet, it has never seen more than 300 Watts, but despite that, I've never struggled for volume and always achieved a tone that I'm very happy with. It isn't a lightweight cab, so it'll be collection only, but it does have a set of removable castors included as standard, which I've always found to be really useful. I'm in Guiseley, near Leeds.

 8. Jonny Clapham and The Blues Assassins are at Hoggs 'n' Heifers in Bentham for the first time, playing songs from artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Robben Ford, B.B. King, Ray Charles, Jeff Healey, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana and many others. Expect a generous helping of punchy driving blues and blues-influenced music with tight, well thought out arrangements, and plenty of guitar backed by a rock-solid rhythm section, guaranteed to leave you feeling anything but blue! Featuring; Jonny Clapham - guitar and vocals Louise Lydamore - Bass Tim Gilroy - Drums The Bassist; Since we're on a bass forum, I thought a bit of info on the bass player would be in order! Louise is a really experienced and rock solid bass player, having played for years on all kinds of gigs including rock bands, big bands, jazz combos, pit bands for musicals and gypsy jazz bands. She has great tone, great feel, always locks into the mix really well and will be playing a Tanglewood Curbow through a Little Mark II into a Warwick 411 PRO. The rhythm section of Louise and Tim are on top form, with loads of experience, and are an absolute pleasure to work with and well worth seeing. Hope to see you there! 9.
A quick surf on ebay came up with theses goodies ... http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4aaeffcc0e http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1e670c2463
+1 for Warwick and Peavey gear. Peavey are reliable and cheap (mainly due to the weight), and IME, are a lot louder than their power rating would suggest compared to other manufacturers.
 10. Some kind of attenuator might work...this is all I could find though in a quick search; http://www.ehx.com/products/signal-pad I suppose you could set the volume low on this and leave it on your amp, out of the way so it can't get knocked...bit crap having to spend an extra £30 though! I was thinking of attenuators like this studiospares inline attenuator but they seem to all be balanced XLR. It's probably quite straight forward to make something that could do the job, but that's not something I've had any experience with. Hope this helps anyway.
 11. AFAIK, the level is like that to enable it to be able to drive a power amp directly...I imagine it could make it a bit awkward in front of a regular bass amp though.
 12. +1 for Doddy and Bilbo's comments about looking at your technique and working with the settings on your amp...also try different settings on your bass too - it's amazing the amount of different tones you can get from even a simple bass.
 13.
Ask for a nice one-off fee. £150/£175 per day is good money and is not to be sniffed at. Maybe pitch yourself at £200 a day and then prepare to get haggled down. If it's a big money project, you'll get your £200, if it's a slightly budget production, say you'll do them a favour and do it for £150. You simply can't afford to rely on sales for money. Never comes good. Truckstop
+1 I think it can be a good way to tell how serious someone is about the project they're hiring you for - if they've budgeted money for session musicians, you know that they aren't messing about.
 14.
Instrument insurance for me was nothing like that expensive, for £4000's worth of gear?
IIRC, the cost of public liability insurance outside the MU would have worked out more expensive for me than the cost of MU subs.
 15. For me, it's worth it for the amount of insurance more than anything - £2000 free instrument insurance, public liability insurance and even some kind of personal injury insurance. Cost of membership is cheaper than paying for all this insurance outside the MU. £160 a year for anyone who doesn't know. It's also nice to know that other benefits like contracts, legal advice etc are there if I need them, though I rarely use them. I think that it can be really easy (particularly for musicians who are less experienced in the business side of things) to make uninformed decisions and having a source of advice can be really useful. I don't think the MU can be viewed like other unions because musicians are very rarely on a set wage and there are too many bands willing to play for little money for MU rates to be accepted as normal, but, at least for me personally, the benefits of being a member outweigh any short-comings.
 16. AFAIK, you can copyright a melody but not a chord sequence...I suppose in the case of riffs that are based around chords, they would be considered to be melodies, whereas a chord sequence would be a lot more simplistic and lacking any specific rhythm.
 17.
Why not pm 'Jonny-lad' as he's a proper musician and I assume he can read! Jon
Cheers for the recommendation Jon! It's the first time in over two months that I've had any free time, so I could have covered some of the gigs if needed...I'm also regularly meeting reading bass players (both upright and bass guitar) who I could put forwards if I wasn't available, as I generally play at least a couple of big band gigs every week on guitar - tough reads too, so you know the musicians you meet are more than capable. Good luck for a speedy recovery Keith.
 18. The same thing happened to my bass. The soundpost hadn't moved so I replaced the tailpiece wire with one of these; http://www.contrabass.co.uk/bass_sure_lock.htm Cheap and reliable and no problems since.
 19. Find a way to get inspired - go to some gigs that you wouldn't normally go to, buy some interesting music, learn new stuff, buy some decent tuition books, take some lessons, do some jam nights...anything that gets you out and ignites your enthusiasm. Treat the extra time as a positive and use it to find something new to do. Taking a step back to find out what you really want to do with your playing is always worthwhile. Hope this helps!
 20. This is now sorted. Cheers for everyone's interest!
Like many bass players, I also play guitar and I front a blues influenced trio which covers 60s style bluesy pop rock including songs by Hendrix, Cream as well as Jeff Healey, various blues standards and other classic 60s rock. We aim to keep everything tight and snappy, with good arrangements and a professional approach. Due to the relocation of our current bass player, as well as his new and expanding business, we require a new bass player to fill the position. I have a decent PA (including subs), lights and a reliable van and also a dedicated rehearsal space at home which can accomodate a 3 or 4-piece band. We have several gigs booked currently, all re-bookings, including the Blues Bar in Harrogate, and we aim for decent gigs that are worth playing. We're keen to get more in the diary and also to expand to more venues and different types of gigs, as well as being able to cover private functions effectively, as we occassionally get booked for those types of gigs too. The aim is to build on the success so far and develop things into a reliable, pofessional, regularly gigging band, rather than a casual weekend band. We're also planning on taking this change as an opportunity to expand the band for some gigs to include keys, and a frontline of sax and trumpet, so we can gig the band as either a 3-piece, 4-piece or 6-piece, as well as adding significantly to the current repertoire of over 30 songs, also with more songs in the style of B.B.King, Robben Ford and similar others that suit a bigger band. In a bass player, we'd be looking for someone who is keen to work hard to push things forwards and who is available for regular gigs. I've got parts written up for the current repertoire for the 3-piece (which I did to accommodate deps) so reading ability would probably be necessary so the set can be learnt fairly quickly, although there is plenty of freedom despite there being parts written up, and being a really good sight-reader is not necessary. Also, you'd need your own transport, although we can use the van on gigs, and obviously own equipment, previous experience. Backing vocals would be useful, but not essential. I'm based in Guiseley, near Leeds. Let me know if you're interested, or if you have any questions. Cheers, Jonny.
21.
I would say though that somebody has to be in charge, both on stage and off. I take all the bookings, meet with the clients, sort out the deposits/contracts and logistics. On stage I call I drop tunes and add them in to the set on the fly if I think the crowd will be more receptive to them. It's hard work but it's worth it when a couple or guests at a function tell you how much they love the band etc.
+1 for somebody has to be in charge. I've played (briefly) in a couple of function bands that have failed miserably because no-one took charge. A band leader needs to be decided from the start for both on and off-stage, and it needs to be worth their while so they aren't doing all the extra work without any extra benefits...If a band isn't properly run, it will struggle to keep musicians and you'll spend more time auditioning and rehearsing than gigging and earning.
 22. +1 for peavey gear. Rock solid, reliable and louder than the power ratings would suggest. I've always found my Peavey TNT115 to be nice and versatile too. Peavey gear is also cheap second hand and good value new, and it will last a long time.
 23. Contact phil jones directly - their customer service is top notch. I had a buzz on some notes with my AAD cub guitar amp, and they put me in touch with the UK distributer, who promptly sent out a replacement speaker, free-of-charge, to put in the amp on the basis that there was a problem with one of the speakers. My amp was out of warranty as well. I forget who the UK distributer, but it should be easy enough to find out.
