I tried one the other week & I wasn't impressed. I had a LOT of background hiss & a poor breaking up sound. The guitar ones are better.
+1. The one I had was junk. The tone was hollow and awful. All of my basses sounded the same - even the fretless.

I have one it's useful for those without a headphone socket on the amp head. Plus if you did like it's tone I've used it by pluging it into the CD input of an amp, pointless but it can be done .

Mine doesn't hiss or break up, but across the two very different basses I have it does sound similar with both.

Personally I love mine. Use it with high end (ACS T2) in-ear head phones and I haven't noticed any unwanted noise. I use it with my MusicMan Sterling and Fender Jazz.

I'd recommend one, but then again I've not tried any other similar products.

Just bought one of these and I have to say I am a bit disappointed. It does what it's supposed to I guess, that is, amplify your guitar without actually using an amp, but the build quality is pants and mine hisses quite a lot. I will use it for practise where I can't use an amp, I was thinking of buying an acoustic bass for practise, so I suppose it's potentially saved me some money, but I think there must be a better piece of kit out there than this.
