The Solid is more conventional with 2 single coil pickups. Prices... well the Room Bass shown with the burl top is €3700 and the Solid around the €2500 mark. This means of course that you need prefect tradional bass technique for thumb placement to be able to cope with this instrument. Therefore playing-wise it's not for me having tried one at The Gallery. It sounds great and I love the extreme elegance of the design but I simply can't be comfortable playing it. On the other hand the simple minimalist design of the Athlet is exactly my kind of bass. If it sounds as good as the Worp that'll be another I'll have to add to my list.. The upper horn on my Pedulla Buzz (which is over 10 years old) is probably thinner in places but it's still holding up fine. Besides this is the 21st century - you could probably make a much thinner horn provided you re-enforced it with graphite or similar. Personally I like the slimness and elegance. This is an A Bass A D Bass and an E Bass The majority of his basses use his own headless design - he even builds his own tuners and neck-end string clamps. There's 3 variations on the minimalist A bass each with slightly more body wood (B and C), but my favourite is the sculpted body of the D bass which adds the lower body bouts to the C bass shape. There's a highly informative section on construction philosophy and technique on the web site. Designs shown here cost between $3000 and $4500.
