1.
New article uploaded! It is a pretty special one since it is a (quite big) quote from a professional bass player! He basically talks about which state of minds a bass player should be while playing music... very interesting! ^_^
first thing i read when checking out your blog, and very eye opening, made me realise i still have a lot of work to do, good job though fella keep it up very good read
2. have to say a +1 to all the comments about instruments with sentimentality and personal emotional attachments... both my current basses were presents from my dad and i would never dream of selling them on or trading them, i'd miss em to much... now if i'd bought one out of my own money i would be more willing to trade or sell for the one, but purchasing my "one" is far off cos its a custom 5 string made by John Shuker... long way away yet... but if you want my advice i say do what people have said take your current 4001 with you and compare them side by side, i would personally keep the cream 4001 you have because of the sentimental value behind it and then sell something your less emotionally attached to to fund 'the one' or just get the one you have already re-finished... apologies if that all seems very wordy my grammar is shocking... if you can't make sense then ask for a breif translation
3.
That's because way back when, before the corporations got involved, Gibsons were made by craftsmen, Fenders were made by machines for cheaper production & easy repair. It's a natural progression for Fenders to go over to China or Korea to be made by a cheap labour force on machines, while Gibsons craftsmen die out & top dollar is charged by the few that can be bothered to train up to the job. Those that don't knock out the run of the mill Gibsons with flaws, then buyers say they are over-priced. I don't much like Fenders, can you tell? Only because they're too common, too every-day. If they float your boat then fine, but I really don't get the "other" forums that show endless lists of near identical Fenders & they drool over them like they're some grail.
+1000000000000 to that mans point of view because it pretty much matches my own, i can't stand seeing or playing run of the mill fenders, now something like my Squier 5 string Precision special with jazz pick ups, thats one that you wont see much of and really floats my boat.... but thats just me people opinions vary and its up to them what floats their boat it just sinks mine...
4. Currently screaming along to Avenged Sevenfolds new album 'Nightmare' its a classic and a fitting tribute to their late drummer 'The Rev' may he rest in piece.
5. i wont lie i'm very very intrigued by this whole gloves thing... i may have to route about the house and see if i can find anything! cheers for the thread though silddx its made for interesting reading, personally i couldnt give two shits what peopls think i look like on stage because half the time i look like this: so playing with gloves would just be another thing to make me look like an animal so it wouldnt matter to me!
6. you could just do what i did and by a 5 string! that way if the Guitard wants to down tune you dont have to because you have the extra low end already, and i can vouch for peavey amps and there tone thats what i use and it lets me sit in the mix and cut through when i need to good luck with everything though... p.s GET A 5 STRING! Edit: for epic fail of punctuation and typo's
7. it would of been my sh*tty precision copy that i later sold for £20 and the song was holiday by Green Day we sounded like we were on a f***ing hitler march i swear! i was singing as well but that was my introduction to music performance
8. this has always been my favourite and leaves me in awe every single time! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVl39LBZGMw

10. I hold him as one of my influences because of his style and the songs he wrote while he was in Queen, i would never say he was a nob because i havent met him but from what i've read in Queen's biography he was definately the quiet kind considerate one of the group. as for not rejoining Queens ashes... he never would of done because he officially retired from music in 1991-92 when Freddie died... i never would of seen him doing anything major after that cos it hit him really hard. Edit: Just to add nice thread
11.
Remember way back when you were worried about auditioning and I said Now you know what I was on about .....
i know i should of listened to the wise words... well i know now
12.
Keep at it Fredster - it'll come good in the end mate
Trust me pete i am this 3rd band ive got lined up are really similar to RWS so im feeling a bit more hopefull about it ill keep you posted!
I laughed at this. Who in their right mind would think "I need to get an urgent message to someone as I am running late. It is important that they pick this message up immediately. I know, I'll write on their Facebook wall." haha yep.. ridiculous! what is wrong with people today!? peace c
I know freaking tell me about it the guy had time to write on my wall but not to turn his f***ing phone on and call me to let me know, some people just infuriate me...
13. well i've gotten in contact with the other one and am in the process of arranging to meet them late next week and they do more of the type of stuff i want to do stuff that will actually challenge me! anyway i'll keep you all irritatingly updated through out the process
14.
Please persevere.., and keep a record of all the duds you're encountering in case you run into them later.
oh trust me i'm remembering there faces as i construct the hitlist of bastards who have ever f***ed me over... but they were just 16 and 17 yrs old this band today this other one i have lined up are alot older so hoping there a bit more proffessional... fingers crossed anyway
15. well you be sorry to hear that these guys f***ed me over as well, i was supposed to meet the lead guitarist and then he would take me to the practice room, well i arrived at the meeting point punctually, (10 minutes early) i then proceeded to wait for 20 minutes with no sign and then tried ringing him and got no reply as his phone was switched off, i then proceeded to check my facebook on my phone and he had left a message on my wall at 25 minutes past the time i was supposed to meet him telling me to wait another half an hour i proceeded to tell him he had blown it and would not be in further contact with him... talking to another band now lets hope its 3rd time lucky... i feel cursed to be honest...
16. hahaha thanks guys i am loving being wanted to be honest its rather flattering
17. heard back from a band who are my age, who do rock covers and have a audition tomorrow, got the setlist prepared and i'm ready i know the material inside out, meeting them about 1:30 these guys seem alot more promising and assure me they have a practice room so i feel more confident about this one its more local too i will let you know how it all goes, if this one fails though i have 2 more lined up who want to see me honestly a week ago i couldnt find anything now i'm having to turn bands away cos i have auditions lined up already lol
18. just a quick question to ask if anyone would be able to point me towards the tab for Two Tribes by frankie goes to hollywood cos i love the bassline and would love to give it a go at trying to play it... thanks and to any of you who thought i was offering my self on the street shame on you (unless the price is right )
19. i have to agree with being a showman because i've always been the one who runs around the stage and tries to get the audience clapping along and doing the steve harris and pointing my bass at the stage standing and jumping off everything its just what i do, i suppose the stage is where i let everything out and i truly relax and have no shame at all, plus i'd be bored stupid just standing still no matter what music i was playing... so +10000000000000 for being a showman or a plonker just depends on your point of view i suppose...
20.
MB1. ...The Guy is obviously enjoying himself!...apparently the police... have found the motorcyclists who ran over his bass!
Did Tubs do good?? i apologise but i've been waiting for a reason to do that ever since i saw your avatar...
21.
After this disappointing audition your next one is less likely to be fraught with jitters. Have you checked out any on-line jam/collaboration sites similar to the ones mentioned in this thread?: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=630261
no i havent i will do though thankyou, also you'll be pleased to hear i'm waiting to hear from a hard rock band who do originals and covers and are local and looking for a bassist and singer so i'm hoping i could fill both spots and i've listened to there stuff its very proffessional so i have high hopes for this one, will let you know what they say thanks everyone for all your advice though
22.
Sorry to hear mate. Something will come up thats right. Bullsh*t bands do my head in
yeah i've gone on the search already for something new hopefully something should come up eventually! i know tell me about it they advertised they were in a studio near watton, yeah they were in watton but said studio was a sh*tty porta cabin i could barely get into with out tripping over stuff. oh well live and learn.
23.
My comment was offered as statement, not an inference. I'm on your side. I used to receive puzzled looks when I first played a bass with more than four strings--back in '84.
no sorry i didnt take offence sorry if it came across that way it wasnt supposed to i understand your all on my side
24. no THEY had no drummer and were set up in a groggy corner of a sh*tty porta cabin and werent rock at all they were indie chord whores and not in a "studio" at all like they advertised so i was honest with em and said no sorry its not for me, they were also astounded by the fact i was playing a 5 string
