ped
Hell yeah it was a TURBO diesel, a whole 1.9 litres of power. Actually it was pretty rapid. Fell apart later that term because of rust. Those shoes did too, both soles came off simultaneously in the middle of the town with no warning whatsoever.

BigRedX
Here's some more German basses from Kristall There's two models currently in the range, Room and Solid Interesting retro/modern single-cut design, the semi-hollow Room bass has both a Schertler Bluestick system and a conventional magnetic pickup. The Solid is more conventional with 2 single coil pickups. Prices... well the Room Bass shown with the burl top is €3700 and the Solid around the €2500 mark. ped
Apart from the rust it was indestructible! Same as the Citroen, but the heater matrix went on that one. A shame, to be sure! On a better note I got a really nice Vectra 1.8 16v the other day, more info and a dedicated thread on its way!!
BigRedX
Nice to see you too Ped... pity it was so noisy it's a wonder that any of the exhibitors there have any voice left by Sunday Evening... As If said in the dedicated Music Live thread I was much more impressed with this show than this year's LGS. Maily down to the efforts of BassDirect and E-Basses. Well done to all concerned! BigRedX
And after missing a day due to visiting Music Live and then being too busy playing with my new toy here's another pair of basses from Germany - this time from BassLine Here's the Worp and the Athlet The Worp takes the single cut design idea to it's ulimate extreme - with the body brace running the whole length of the neck. This means of course that you need prefect tradional bass technique for thumb placement to be able to cope with this instrument. Therefore playing-wise it's not for me having tried one at The Gallery. It sounds great and I love the extreme elegance of the design but I simply can't be comfortable playing it. On the other hand the simple minimalist design of the Athlet is exactly my kind of bass. If it sounds as good as the Worp that'll be another I'll have to add to my list.. BigRedX
that top horn looks very fragile
You think so? The upper horn on my Pedulla Buzz (which is over 10 years old) is probably thinner in places but it's still holding up fine. Besides this is the 21st century - you could probably make a much thinner horn provided you re-enforced it with graphite or similar. Personally I like the slimness and elegance. I also like how modern construction techniques and materials free us from lumpen traditional designs. YMMV
BigRedX
Moving on todays basses are form David King in the US. This is an A Bass A D Bass and an E Bass The majority of his basses use his own headless design - he even builds his own tuners and neck-end string clamps. There's 3 variations on the minimalist A bass each with slightly more body wood (B and C), but my favourite is the sculpted body of the D bass which adds the lower body bouts to the C bass shape. There's a highly informative section on construction philosophy and technique on the web site. Designs shown here cost between $3000 and $4500. E_MaN
WOW the AD bass looks sex, but maybe with a different colour? And I wonder with a headstock would it look even BETTER?!?!?
BigRedX
It looks like David King is pretty committed to the headless concept for the D bass, although there are a couple with faux headstocks here and here. paul, the
I'd reckon a clip-wire frame for the A bass would look cool. Would love the option of a more traditional (yet abstract) look. - Like the Yammy silent electric uprights.

BigRedX
The next bass come from UVA This is the Thor Memnock Signature Model Extreme! Fretless with a 32 'fret' neck with extended cutaways EMG Pickup and Seymor Duncan electronics. Custom built for Memnock of the band Susperia. There is a standard Thor model which isn't as extreme. Also some other interesting basses on the site but they only appear to exist as concepts at the moment.

I find that pretty cool and I'm a simpleton.

Without the head it would look so wrong!
