80Hz Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 I found a good deal on one of these locally and couldn’t resist snapping it up. Love the blue - looks great in person and on camera! It just took a little setting up to get it playing well. Sounds good too but I have a spare G&L MFD P pickup I’ve been itching to get into something.. hmmm 🤔 Apparently these were made with laurel fretboards, but this particular one looks dark and rich unlike a lot of the dried out stuff I see. Would these be considered Classic Vibe tier instruments? Happy New Year to BC! 13 Quote
uncle psychosis Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 Nice! I wanted one of these for ages but I'm not sure I'd get on with the neck width. In my opinion these are better than a Classic Vibe. 1 Quote
80Hz Posted December 31, 2025 Author Posted December 31, 2025 Nut width is 42mm and the profile feels very standard modern precision to me. Skinnier than my other P at 45mm! Quote
fergs40 Posted Thursday at 01:59 Posted Thursday at 01:59 Needs de-blinging (IMHO…) but beyond that it has more than usually solid bones which will take you a long way towards a bass experience which would otherwise be many times the price. Enjoy! 1 Quote

jd56hawk Posted Thursday at 12:41 Posted Thursday at 12:41 (edited) Most people will say the Classic Vibe is the better bass, but most people probably haven't even tried the 40th-Anniversary basses. I bought this one when they first came out and it's every bit as good as the CVs...I have to say the neck on this one is the best Squier neck made. Edited Thursday at 12:42 by jd56hawk 3 Quote

It’s nice hunk of maple - perhaps they were a bit more selective on woods for the anniversary series. 1 Quote
Supernaut Posted Thursday at 19:56 Posted Thursday at 19:56 Best bass in the Squier range today, IMO. No need to swap the pups out - the stock ones sound excellent. 2 Quote

cetera Posted yesterday at 12:16 Posted yesterday at 12:16 I have the same bass, and one in black too. Love them, and the bling.... Enjoy! 1 Quote

Mine runs my AVII scarily close for tone and may have the edge for playability. 2 Quote
HeadlessBassist Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I bought one of the 40th Jazzes from @Sean in the Summer for a pupil, so if the Precision is anything like the same quality, it'll be a very nice sounding, good quality bass. 2 Quote
Supernaut Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Has anyone here swapped the pickguard out for a traditional 3 ply? Quote
floFC Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago @Supernaut I have purchased a pick guard for my 40th anniversary seafoam green jazz , but haven’t fitted it yet. Quote
jonno1981 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I played one of these at guitar guitar and it beat all their other basses hands down for playability and feel. It was way better setup than any of the US fenders they had. 1 Quote

I put one of these 4-ply guards on my LPB 40th Precision - fitted perfectly, despite what it says in the listing about not fitting Squiers. When I bought mine it was about €15 - not sure why it’s shot up to more than €60 when I looked just now, but other variants still seem to be cheaper. Might be better to see what it would cost direct from Musiclily: https://musiclily.com/collections/precision-bass-style-pickguards/products/musiclily-pro-13-hole-p-bass-pickguard-for-fender-american-mexican-standard-precision-bass-1-3-4ply-mx0355p These days I often see if Amazon sellers sell direct. 1 Quote
