danbanbass Posted December 3 Posted December 3 (edited) So after 3 months of waiting it’s arrived, I custom ordered a Precision Bass by Luca at Alnus Basses. (Insert joke about name here) There wasn’t an awful lot of information about them on the web, so set about tracking down owners across social media outlets, general consensus was he made lovely basses. I’ve always wanted a lime green metallic P Bass but Fender custom shop prices were out of reach for me especially when buying blind. I contacted Luca and gave him the specs I wanted and went through step by step with him in regard to colour shades/pickguard colours etc. I liked the fact he made the necks and bodies out of raw materials rather than pre made husks of the shelf, all paint/relicing and pickups were done in house and I liked the thought of a bass being built in a lovely Italian village (My family originates from Italy so this was a little piece of Italy). So for the result, it’s beautifully made and very resonant! The colour may not be to everyone’s tastes but I’m really happy with it, it needed a little setup to get it how I wanted it and it’s lovely. Just waiting for amp to warm up before plugging it in, if the pickup isn’t my bag I have a couple laying around including a Fender PV60 and Seymour Duncan Quarterpound. I will more than likely fit a badass 2 bridge to it aswell which I have spare. Edited December 3 by danbanbass 25 Quote
BassApprentice Posted December 3 Posted December 3 Whilst the colour isn't to my liking - the rest of the work looks great. Quite a convincing relic job, although the neck has no reason to be so worn after the 7th fret! 😂😉 1 1 Quote
Lozz196 Posted December 3 Posted December 3 That’s really nice, and the colour looks great with the tort. Looks good in the pic with the other two basses too. 1 Quote
Mrbigstuff Posted December 3 Posted December 3 I like the colour a lot. Hadn’t heard of this maker before but sounds like a good experience. 1 Quote

I first saw it on a run of Gibson Les Paul Custom Shops a while ago and has always sat at the back of my mind. So has been bubbling away for some time. Quote
Reggaebass Posted December 3 Posted December 3 Congrats on your new bass, I missed out on a red one of these a while back, the build quality looks really good, the neck wear isn’t for me but that’s just personal taste, nice one 1 Quote

Even the pickup sounds great, I’ve only played it at home mind but will give it some at Rehearsal on Monday. 1 Quote
JJMotown Posted December 5 Posted December 5 Looks great. Some clay dots would had been the proverbial icing... and complimented the colours. 1 Quote
cocco Posted December 6 Posted December 6 Never heard of the builder before but I can see me doing some research, that's a great looking bass! Lime green metallic looks a lot better than it sounds. How did you get on with the pickup? 1 Quote

I was looking to change out the pickup for a Emg Gzr or a quarter pounder but honestly the stock pickup is decent! Measures 10.8k with alnico 5 magnets. 3 Quote

I’m a big fan of changing out pickups, but at this level I don’t think any tonal change would amount to anything worth noting. I like the colour, it’s different, without being outlandish, to my eyes. 1 Quote

I have a bitsa P that I'm forever changing the pickup in, I really rate the GZR but it's probably not a worthwhile change over what you have already. 1 Quote

I’ve already got one of those GZR on my American vintage 2 bass and to be honest there isn’t a lot between them. Quote
1Kay Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Thanks for the details and pics, Dandan. Two questions: - What level of relic is this? - Is the fingerboard ebony? It sure is a lovely darkness. Peace. Quote

I asked Luca if he had a really dark rosewood fingerboard he could use for the build. Quote
