I'm on a course to learn to refret and fret level and general setting up of guitars and basses

it's 3 days long

I've refretted a squier strat and fret levelled a couple of my basses including a Harley Benton PB50

One of my bitsa P basses didn't need doing but one has been quite a problem as the neck won't truss dead straight (this is fairly common apparently)

Final fret polish and set up this morning, so we'll see how it turns out

It's been great. I've learned a lot of things but also talking to and watching the other students with their instruments and problems

They do full build courses and all sorts

My luthier is in his 70s and is retiring so I wanted to know how to fret level just in case I need to

I might go back for a custom build course (apparently a lot of people do)

Many of us in the south west did a 1 day maintainance course with fret leveling a few years back* when they were starting up - Ben came to one of our early bass bashes. It was very good and would have always liked to do the building course but it is just getting a week to go!

* Of course, when I say 'a few years' that means 11!

edit - I looked for the original thread for it, but it suffered in the old Photobucucket purge of 2016!

A good friend who had emigrated to New Zealand came back to do the custom build course with Crimson guitars - built himself a very nice "Superstrat" guit*r.   Really enjoyed himself, and said how fantastic the instruction and support was. :i-m_so_happy:

Is he the guy with the tattoos?  If it was then agree - he was really informative and a really nice guy to chat to.

Yep, ben is the creator of Crimson Guitars, really well spoken with a biohazard tattoo on his head.

He's done many excellent videos on Youtube. Well worth watching, although almost as time consuming as Project Binky.
