I think it was Captain Sensible (born Ray Burns) who said that he and some of the early punks changed their names to help avoid the DHSS from sniffing around too much as they were still claiming 'the dole'. 1 Quote

I loved Guy Pratt's story of the punk days, when everyone had adopted names like Rat Scabies, Fester Pustule and so on. People used to assume he had done similarly when he introduced himself. 2 Quote
