police squad Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I mt up with a fellow bassist the other day, I bought a Rick higain pickup from him. On my clank journey he was telling me about his Ricks and amps He played me a clip on something he was working on, plugged into a V4B. It sounded amazing Who has experience of both of these amps please, I feel it should be the Ampeg all the way For my tribute gigs when I'm not supplying PA and lights, I would consider one of these amps your thoughts my learned friends Quote
Beedster Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Ampeg is always a safe bet for definitive rock tones, the great thing about the V4B is that you can wind up the power tubes at decent stage volume in a small venue. Lovely amp Quote

Lovely amp yes, this is what I've read do we know about reliability? Quote
BassmanPaul Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago (edited) I don't know what the tube complement of the Ashdown but the 7027 tubes used in the V4B are very very expensive. up to a thousand bucks for a set of four from Fliptops. They mention the British KT88 are an alternative. Edited 18 hours ago by BassmanPaul Quote

Reggaebass Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago The V4B is my main amp, just my opinion here is that it sounds amazing, and the eq is very versatile, it has got a lot of mid and high if you want but it also does my reggae and dub lows very well too, and I’ve never had any issues with it, I’ve had lots of amps and still got quite a few ,but this is my favourite 2 Quote

Ashdown went the other way and did it with a pair of '88s.. 2 Quote
BassAdder60 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I’ve owned both amps and both played through the SVT212AV cab CTM100 was nice but took took a bit of fiddling getting the EQ right The Ampeg V4B was better, fitted the cab better, sounded more valve like and easy EQ to get a good sound In my last rock band ( loud ) it was running around 1/2 volume so had more to give but after it warmed up and was pushing a decent volume the sound was the best. CTM 100 nice but V4B awesome and clearly a better amp I feel 1 Quote
