Vanderkley - Whats Happening?

I use a Vanderkley 210LNT and am really impressed what volume damage it can do in a rock band setting as well as more delicate nuances of my funky / souly / poppy type bands. However I've just done a trawl of the internet and couldnt find the Vanderkley website. Also most stockists (eg: Bass Direct etc) are out of stock. 🤔 Anyone know whats happening?

I don’t have inside knowledge, except for a comment from an official dealer when asked what was happening with Vanderkley……..”he’s selling all his stock and inventory”.

 

Doesn’t sound great and it would be a sad loss if it folds. I have both amp and cabs and they are top notch gear.

They've stopped trading. The website and Facebook pages are down and Marc has went off Facebook too. 

 

I was in the market for another cab and Bass Direct told me the cabs weren't being made anymore.

Same questions being asked and assumptions being made on the Dutch site (basgitaarforum.nl) and that other forum where they talk a lot about bass.

See if you can take some photo's of the tweeter and someone here might be able to recognise it. Probably better to do it in a new thread so people know what you are asking

Try seeing if Marc will reply via Instagram. That's the only place that the bass product page still exists.

 

It's interesting this debacle actually. What does one do when a small, boutique builder just suddenly stops? If the parts are bespoke say drivers or crossover parts what then?

That's an interesting question. If the small boutique builder insists on using custom components, your'e up you know what without a paddle. I'm pretty sure Vanderkley didn't use custom drivers, however, and crossover parts are easily obtainable. Anyone needing to replace a component should first open the box up to identify the faulty part.  I'm guessing the tweeter is a bog standard P.Audio unit, which is available from many sources for not much money. Assuming Vanderkley hasn't removed the label, it should be easily identifiable.

The "what then" is not very comforting. It's one of the risks of owning such products.

As an addendum to this post of something that happened last week. I own a Vanderkley 2x12. For reasons which I probably can't explain, I wanted another one. Yes, I am mad.

 

So, I find one on ebay and it gets shipped to me. The tweeter doesn't work. Turning the dial made no difference and it was off the whole time no matter what. Well, there was no marking on the packaging or any signs of damage at all. The seller drives from Folkstone to my house in South East London to pick it up. 

 

Now, he's got the issue of getting that fixed. I had a look inside and the tweeter was still connected up fine.

 

However, this doesn't sound great does it? Surely the last customers must have warranties if things go wrong? If it's servicing we were looking for we'd all be playing Ashdown cabs and quite frankly, that's a sonic (and weight) compromise I'll never be making.
