Aberdeen bass players social! 13th July, venue TBD

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

EDIT: Date decided - 13th July 2025.Ā  Venue/time TBC.

Ā

It was a light hearted joke

Ā

Ā

Then I started thinking - why the hell not?Ā  I know many of us are very busy most weekends, and through the week evenings are littered with rehearsals and other sorts of stuff.Ā  But if we could arrange a time when a bunch of us could get togther (a Sunday afternoon perhaps?) - nothing as grand as a bass bash - just a meetup somewhere in the pub to talk shite about basses or bands or anything else you fancy - would any of you Aberdeen city and shire bassists be interested?

Ā

No offence taken if it comes to hee haw, but if you don't ask, you don't get...

Hi Aberdeen bass players. . . . did any of you play with Dave Innes?

Ā

I gigged with him a lot down here in London. One of the best drummers I played with, he is sadly missed.

Even from 500 miles away (some kind of reference there possibly) that sounds like a totally amazing idea - well done @neepheidĀ my Scottish brother from another (likely Scottish) motherĀ

Ā

Ā

@brule_lentementĀ you have gone full-scale red carpet here.
Ā

advice: Just don’t write a scathing memoir afterwards and have it published in hardback like certain princes of the realm .. šŸ‘

Ā

Yes that might just workĀ šŸ‘Ā I missed the original post so I'll tag a couple of other "locals" who might be interested @Yan_Huriey@jig@ToneFree@woodyratm

Ā

Yes I did a couple of charity gigs and a number of jam nights with him. Lovely guy and very talented. When he came back to Aberdeen he played in theĀ Gerry Jablonski Band with our very own @jig

I'm keen to make this happen, so let's get some ideas bouncing around.Ā  Main issue would be "when".

Ā

I'm thinking weekends are best. For me, I have a gap in my gigging schedule next month with folk away on holiday and whatnot, so I have the following weekends free:

Ā

12th/13th July
19th/20th July

27th July

2nd/3rd August

Ā

Any of those work for folk?

So far all ok for me except 12th July & 2nd Aug.

Ā

FYI the 19/20th July is when the Tall Ships are in Aberdeen.

Ā

Oh, good shout, probably best avoid that weekend then - place will be hoaching with tourists probably in a sort of mini version of how Edinburgh gets with the Fringe.

I can see the headline now:

"Shortage of bassists in Aberdeen after they were all press-ganged into working on a galleon....."

Thank you for the input on dates, with that info I have narrowed it down to two:

Ā

13th July

3rd August

Ā

I'll leave that for people to chew over (and see if anyone else chimes in) then it'll be onto deciding on a venue.Ā  Which is a posh word for... pub.Ā  So gutted that CASC shut, it would have been a stick on for such a meetup :(

I can make Sunday 13th but will be away for 3rd of August. No worries if that doesn’t suit the consensus, will catch up at the next one.

Ā

Not at all, we've been building towards something of a consensus, so we'll make it Sunday 13th and that'll nail it down.

Ā

So, where do you want to meet, and at what time?Ā  I'll throw in the suggestion of a Brewdog (Union Square or Castlegate?), 2pm.Ā  But feel free to chime in with other ideas/preferences.

BrewDogs a shout. Can at least book an area maybe? I can’t imagine it being that loud on a Sunday.Ā
Ā

Be awesome to meet folk!Ā

Thanks for doing the legwork for this MattĀ @neepheidĀ šŸ‘

Ā

Random thought....this isn't a "Bass Bash" but a chance to meet up and talk so shouldn't it be called a "BassChatChat"?šŸ¤”šŸ¤£šŸ¤£
