Pea Turgh Posted Tuesday at 19:14 Posted Tuesday at 19:14 Free wood - looks like mahogany to me, but owner says it’s teak. What does the hive mind say?! 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted Tuesday at 19:36 Posted Tuesday at 19:36 Hard to say exactly but I’ve worked with a lot of teak and it does look like it to me, it’s got quite a distinctive smell when it’s machined or cut, it’s a nice wood 1 1 Quote

I've a bunch of wood from an old front door. I'm pretty sure it's mahogany but I was wondering if it might be teak. No particularly noticeable smell when cut. 2 Quote
JPJ Posted Tuesday at 22:08 Posted Tuesday at 22:08 I am involved with a lot of teak in the marine world, and looking at that grain, I’d say it’s more likely from the mahogany family. Pictures of the end grain would be helpful - in my experience old slow grown teak tends to have a very tight and regular grain pattern with no great variation in the thickness of the individual growth rings. 1 Quote
Dom in Dorset Posted yesterday at 05:40 Posted yesterday at 05:40 Another vote for mahogany going on looks. If you had some to compare teak is harder and heavier than most types of mahogany . Quote
zbd1960 Posted yesterday at 06:11 Posted yesterday at 06:11 I was going to say teak is heavy. 1 Quote

Pea Turgh Posted 20 hours ago Author Posted 20 hours ago Cheers for all the thoughts, dudes. I was contemplating using some furniture to chop up to make a bass body. Decided against it in the end, as it was a nice bit of furniture. Maybe I’ll hang out by some skips instead. 1 Quote
