Does this look like teak to you?

Free wood - looks like mahogany to me, but owner says it’s teak.

Hard to say exactly but I’ve worked with a lot of teak and it does look like it to me, it’s got quite a distinctive smell when it’s machined or cut, it’s a nice wood

That's good to know. I've a bunch of wood from an old front door. I'm pretty sure it's mahogany but I was wondering if it might be teak. No particularly noticeable smell when cut.

I am involved with a lot of teak in the marine world, and looking at that grain, I’d say it’s more likely from the mahogany family. Pictures of the end grain would be helpful - in my experience old slow grown teak tends to have a very tight and regular grain pattern with no great variation in the thickness of the individual growth rings.

Another vote for mahogany going on looks.

If you had some to compare teak is harder and heavier than most types of mahogany .

Cheers for all the thoughts, dudes.  I was contemplating using some furniture to chop up to make a bass body.  Decided against it in the end, as it was a nice bit of furniture.  Maybe I’ll hang out by some skips instead.
