spyder Posted February 4 Posted February 4 (edited) I've just ordered one and will report back with my options when it arrives. I used Taurus bass amps and speakers about 10 years ago and really enjoyed their sound and build quality. Edited February 4 by spyder 1 Quote
Lozz196 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Looks good and sounds good on the clip, seems it’s a pedal that doesn’t go from clean to Lenmy without anything inbetween, ideal for those of us who just want to take off the edge of a completely clean sound. 1 Quote
fretmeister Posted February 4 Posted February 4 I like that. I do like a sort of dirty compressor sound. My participation in the abstinence thread is looking dodgy! Quote

That's my thought also. Take the edge of a clean sound. Quote

krispn Posted February 6 Posted February 6 It’s the sort of utilitarian pedal I dig. I have a markbass compressore which adds the warm tube stage, a little bit of tube character and I’ve heard it can even do compression - but she’s a hefty lass. This sound’s like similar in the ball park tones with a tiny footprint in comparison. Looking forward to the thoughts once you’ve had a chance to give it a whirl. 1 Quote
jcburn Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I'm interested in this one too. Not a drive pedal per se, but adds some harmonic content none the less. Quote

This is exactly what it does. To my ears it added lots of compression, a thickness to the 100hz to 300hz region and slight hair to your bass signal. The big knob in the centre just blends in your clean tone to balance the sound to your preference. I found the best position was at between 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock. The punch toggle is also fantastic at boosting levels to add harmonic richness to the bass signal. I'm very very impressed with this pedal. Sounds exactly like a valve amp. It's so good that it's replaced my overdrive and compressor pedals in one go. Quote
spyder Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 My board is shrinking. The Taurus Servo replaced two pedals in one go. FYI.... It works much better as the first pedal in your chain. If you use a tuner pedal before it, make sure it is true bypass when turned off. This will effect how the Taurus sounds. Hope this helps.😀 Quote
krispn Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Sounds like it’s doing a grand job! I’m interested! I’m gonna sound daft but there is a valve in it right? Quote

spyder Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 (edited) I gigged the pedal last night and it was great. The sound was warm, detailed and cut through the mix fantastically. The biggest difference was using the Punch toggle switch. With it fully engaged the bass guitar cut through and I could hear ever note with clarity and definition. It's a wonderful pedal and is staying put on my pedal board. Edited February 15 by spyder Quote
jcburn Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Any more updates or opinions on this pedal? I'm really keen to try it out to see what it can add to my signal chain, but at the same time it's a lot of cash to drop on a pedal with so few demos out there. Quote
krispn Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) I had one and recently sold it but not because of any issues or complaints. As a low gain ‘fattener’ adding in harmonic content it will do what it says on the tin (box)! It won’t offer tonnes of gain and drive but it will ‘saturate’ and those descriptions should be considered as two separate sonic characteristics. I liked it but as my signal chain already has output TX’ers and tubes it wasn’t doing more or giving me a ‘better’ version of what I had. What it does do is add in that tube saturation/character which is very pleasing sonically and warms up the signal chain and can do that “sonic stock cube” thing where it just makes the tone sit well within the full band mix. Pedals like this and some lower gain/ drive units really need to be heard in that context sometimes to judge their true value IMO be that via IEM or in the room. The bass soul food springs to mind! I realise this all reads like marketing but you might find a lower gain unit like a Solid Gold FX Beta does more of what you like in a more pronounced way with more gain on tap should you need it. I know @tayste_2000 is shifting a Beta MkV which can do lovely low gain tones. Edited 4 hours ago by krispn Quote

It's very subtle in what it does, you're not going to switch it on and dazzle anyone with an obvious effect. But it's more of a feel thing, it's still very much your tone but somehow bigger, more 3 dimensional, with a subtle compression that slots the bass into the mix a little easier. It's one of those units that, I imagine, some people won't see (or hear) the point of and others will consider essential. It's neither a drive, EQ or compressor but it has subtle attributes of all 3 that adds a pleasing something to your sound. It's one of those things you need to try for yourself to see if it works for you as there's not really anything else to directly compare it against. Quote
