Wellā€¦after a bit of a wait, and a bit of Wayne Carini style ā€œitā€™s all about the chaseā€ behaviourā€¦

A mate had bought a 70ā€™s one on a whim and I was absolutely smitten with itā€¦but he wouldnā€™t sell.

Ā

Off I set on my little searchā€¦found via the Shergold owners group on Facebook.

Ā

Original 1980 case too.

Ā

its very clean overall with some edge marks.

Ā

Not bad for 44 years old.

looks lovely

I almost bought a double neck, it was white.

What does it sound like?

Iā€™ve got to build a go cart, then Iā€™m going to record some stuff.

Sort of a P, but not - much like a BB300 which Iā€™ve owned a few of.

Iā€™ve got one of the original Marathon 6 Basses like Hookyā€™s in cherry red. Iā€™ve owned many over the years including double necks and 8 strings I expect yours wonā€™t have the lacquer cracking that most suffer from. Not tried one with the ā€˜laminateā€™ finish, itā€™s definitely a later model. Looks great!Ā

sounds similar to a precision, which I like

Yep, definitely P bass territory. I reckon that will garner a lot of interest* when used at a gig.

Yeah - under the truss Rod cover is a stamp finishing in 80, meaning itā€™s one of the later ones - no flaky finish, and a ā€œlong hornā€ - pretty cool.

Ā

There were some of these bodies still knocking about until a few years ago apparently.

Ā

The case is hilariously aged - covered in stickers from 1992/1991 gigs for ā€œKonkrete Hamsterā€

Nut width - 43mm - but very shallow.

Ā

Weight. The scales I put out on the side for a new battery, which Iā€™ve been out to buyā€¦

Ā

Have now been ā€tidied awayā€ - and sheā€™s off out to watch city/villa with the lad.

Ā

Now, by my patented hold in the hand and guess within 10% methodā€¦8.5lbs.

The last 3 of these Iā€™ve had in my hands have been sub 9lbs.

Ā

I sort of want to find a tatty but functional one, have it sprayed metallic brown and have the old Marathon chocolate bar logo on the mini pickguardā€¦

Ā

Iā€™ve started with an idiotic idea and it wonā€™t go awayā€¦
