For sale is my 50 year old in september  cool as hell Acoustic 136 combo 1x15. quite rare in the uk i think, you dont see many.

iv been doing this up for a while now, amp is working all it needs to finish is some tolex on the back, i have taken the back covering off as it has shrank a fair bit and looked tatty but still have some of it so you can order some iv been told its just fender tolex,  it has a new set of 4 wheels, the 2 front ones lockable and some new corners and big bonus ! it has the very hard to get original speaker in it,  a White Altec 421-8H, H meaning it has the upgraded copper coil fitted which also works great and is worth nearly as much as the combo by its self ! ! i was going to put a jbl in it and keep the altec, but its nice to keep them together, the amp is a great design,  for example, to change the power transistors these are just screwed to the side and can be pulled out by just unscrewing to two screws, no soldering at all, made for quick changing in the field, it needs finishing with the tolex on the back, but its all ready to go and is VERY LOUD !

Its sold cheap for 250 which is not much for something of this age and useable.

Collect from the wirral send me a pm if interested, cheers all.

P.S. all the manuals and a service manual with all the wiring sch's are easy found on line.

I owned one of these, S/H from Allan Gordon many, many years ago! Could have been mine but I don't have the serial number to check🙄 Was brilliant and had casters fitted if i remember correctly.

Lovely combos, great sound, loud as hell and built to last. Still got mine, bought new from Sound Centre Cardiff, although I changed the speaker to an Eminence Kappa 15 300w 4 Ohm back in the 80's.

Still have the original square magnet 100w Eminence driver.

A true 70's iconic amp.

GLWTS.

Altec's 421 8H is a beautiful speaker!  I had one in the late '70s in an Altec double exponential horn.  Wonderful gear.  I remember that mine had a cast frame unlike the one in the image - I suspect that Altec changed from pressed steel (?) to casting in the few years between production of mine and the speaker in the Acoustic.  Fabulous combo - I lusted after Acoustic gear in the mid '70s but it was well out of reach back then.  Absolute bargain IMO

It is indeed a great speaker hence wanting to keep it, if found a matching one i could make some nice hifi cabs.

you should of kept the one with the horn, a pair of them in a studio would be awsome, tannoys golds with UUMMMPH !

Altec,s hifi speakers could move buildings, literally ! as these were the sound of theatre, see last pic,

some really great  info here...

they made some truly monstrous fantastic looking speakers 18" hi fi !! yea... id love a pair, but you just dont come across them very often over here, and quite expensive.

Don’tyajust luv those “Voice of the theatre” cabs. Somewhere in the dim and distance, somewhere in the states, in a theatre they built a horn loaded loud speaker into a stage, beneath the stage, it was voiced to a wavelength that caused nausea, it was about 9Hz. Not a folded horn, a complete wavelength 🤫😱. Altec Lansing drivers were used

A hardback book I bought in the ‘70’s I lent it to the guy who built my custom Fretless, never got it back, yet. I was obsessed with getting a perfect bass sound on the E String, I played those 4 stringers then. Now I’m obsessed with 31Hz on a low ‘B’.

I collaborated with a Liverpool Guy, “John Gee” (we worked together) he developed a half W  cab with 2 x 15” installed similar in design to HH  cabs and of course the Acoustic range. Funny thing is, I had an occasion to look John up about 6/7 years ago and he still had that cab, 40 yesrs later.

These just look the business, they would look seriously purposeful on stage.  Design influences of 50s /60s Sci Fi.

They would look purposeful either side of my 24" black and white Television!
