Wellsyboy
Does anyone on here use a foot stool for practising bass? Saw a Bubby Lewis workshop a few days ago and he described practising with the bass on a raised left. He crosses the left foot onto the right knee which (sadly) I can manage for long any more. Any recommendations?
Frank Blank
I use a footstool, any of the several offered on Amazon will do the trick. This was the one I went with, does the job perfectly well.

velvetkevorkian
Yeah I use something similar (whatever the shop had in stock when I went in), I find it's better for my back position.
haruki
I got used to using a footstool on left leg when playing classical guitar. I occasionally use it for bass on my right leg when playing bass sitting- down esp for longer gigs - eg playing in a musical or some big band gigs
nekomatic
I put my right foot on something and rest the bass on my right leg to play sitting down. I have a guitar footstool but it doesn’t adjust low enough so I ended up getting a yoga block from Decathlon which is just right.
alexpea
I tend to use a bit of wood or a brick to prop up my right leg when playing sat down in a theatre pit. Might treat myself to a foot stool though actually...
pn_day
I'm not an expert on this, but think I've seen reports of acoustic guitar players having back problems if they regularly use a footstool due to the uneven set of hips & back. As a result some now prefer to keep both feet on the floor, and then use a rest or cushion if the guitar needs to be held up higher I bought a cheap shaped 'guitar rest' cushion online and this seems to do the job well -except for the strap that is meant to hold it in on your leg being far too short. I just don't use the strap and it is fine. Search for Andoer Guitar Cushion and you should be able to find something similar through your retailer of choice.

BigRedX
Since all my important playing (in front of an audience) is done standing up, I do all my practicing standing up too.
