Cheap old skool gig speaker advice - Peavey TKO?

Hi All,

just after a decent to 150/200+W bass speaker for small band use. Used to have a Peavey TKO 115, which worked well but sadly sold a while ago and wished I hadn’t.

I don’t want to spend a fortune but wonder if there are any old amps that might suit, might be old and heavy but not a problem as gigs few and far between for now..

Any support appreciated as wonder what to perhaps look for.. cheers!

Chris

There are a couple of decent looking Peavey 1x15 combos on eBay at the moment (including a TKO 115) for not a lot of money if you fancy a trip down memory lane. I agree with Lozz's suggestion to look at Ashdown. Decent and reliable if the weight is not an issue.

Old heavy amps aren’t popular these days so there are plenty to be had.

Have you checked Gumtree? Don’t know where you are situated, but there

are a few Peavey combos on there at the moment. Facebook Marketplace

also has lots of stuff that fits the bill. Not far from me someone is selling

a Peavey Mk1V 210 watt head for £80, great amp! You can often get

Peavey 1x15 BW  cabs for around £60 too, which would be a killer rig

for the money.

FB Marketplace for this sort of thing. You'll be picking up and able to see and test what is going to be old gear. None of the hassle of dealing remotely and getting involved with an eBay dispute. More chance of picking up a bargain too as a lot of people just use it to clear out their lofts/sheds/whatever.

There's a TKO 115 for £120 when I looked yesterday.

I would recommend a Peavey KB100 / KB300.  British and so well made / built

These are keyboard amps, with 3 channels, 1x15 and a great EQ section + Reverb.

I rehearse at my mates mini studio, and he has one of the KB100 combos, and its awesome, i swear.  Saves me hauling my own rig to his place all the time.

Its a fabulous amp, and if it weighed the same as my Shuttlemax and Barefaced cab, i'd use it live.

Agreed - used one of these a few times and they’re certainly fit for purpose.

There’s currently a KB300 for sale on FB Marketplace for £50.

I would look for a Peavey mk VI head and some black Widow speakers. Both are close to indestructible and do pop up from time to time.

I sold a set 3 years ago due to home move. Sob Sob.

Huge sound for the money if you are willing to wait to find one.

Ah, Black Widows. I put two in an old Bassman 2x15 cab many years ago when the crappy OEM drivers went south. Fabulous sounding cab until some toe rag pinched it.

I liked them too.

If anyone is looking for an older Peavey combo, the best ones have the BW speaker option,

usually identified by the BW logo at the bottom of the speaker grille.
