Didn’t Selmer respray a load of sunbursts red, the infamous fiesta that turned pinkish?  Something to do with some band called the Shadows or something! 🤪🤔

Allegedly, back in the '60s a load of sunburst Fenders that came to the UK had defective nitro finishes or were blemished.  I'm not 100% whether it was Selmer or CBS/Arbiter, but the bodies were reworked with solid colours over the original sunburst (light sanding/respray).  I'm intrigued by these.  Not 100% whether they went back to the US or whether the work was done here.  Anyone?

Vintage bass sold for pennies? That's life.

What really upset me was the pre CBS Precision I saw, which had been carved into a Sitar, pear-drop, shape!!

They should reintroduce the stocks for crimes against basses.

Shall we start throwing cabbages and rotten fruit at ol' Geddy?

I read somewhere that if you ordered a solid colour they re sprayed over the burst ones, but it didn’t say because they were defective, (which is possible of course) I think it was because they had a stock of already sprayed bodies

Wonder if they disturbed the solder when they did the resorts, thereby reducing the originality and the magic dust the poorly paid factory workers sprayed on between 1960 and 64

Wouldn’t they have been sprayed before they were put together

Am I the only one hanging onto this thread and waiting to hear if there's a match on this? I love a good back story!

Or did it get taken to pm to protect the innocent?

Taken to PM, but it looks like there's no match on this one. My Dad was mostly playing in jazz bands around that time, but he also worked the club scene as an agency drummer. Didn't really play with many guitar bands, but it was worth asking the question. Thanks to @wateroftynei for the info.👍
