Jimothey Posted December 5, 2019 Share Posted December 5, 2019 (edited) Iāve decided to give building my own effects pedal a goĀ so I bought an Overdrive pedal PCB off eBay for a couple of quidĀ I wonāt be getting the componentsĀ till justĀ after Christmas as there is a big electrical wholesalers near where my DadĀ lives so heās going to get all the bits and bringĀ them with him when they next come up So I started thinking about enclosures and everybody uses the Hammond type Alu enclosures so I thought how about trying to make one out of wood to be a bit different, ItsĀ going to have a water slide decal on top with the lettering for the knobs etc Hereās my first attempt out of so scrap pine I had I'm not sure if I should veneer it instead as it looks a bit bland at the mo? Ā if you struggle to get any of the bits a good place to get components is bitsbox usually pretty decent prices and usually have everything you need. looks like it should be fun to build, but be warned it is addictive! I didnāt realise that they did I would have got the wholesalers to ship the componentsĀ straight to me but they charge a flat rate of Ā£8.95 for P&P which I thought was a bit ridiculous especially as the whole order has only cost me Ā£14 and Iām not in too much of a rush for them anyway Yeah if this one goes well then Iāve got a Bass Fuzz,Ā Chorus and a JTM-45 in the pipeline...........š Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Some pedals have plasticĀ cases and work fine. Plenty of amps have a steel chassis but large parts open to the air,. Jimothey Posted January 14, 2020 Author Share Posted January 14, 2020 Iāve sprayed a couple of coats of White on the enclosure todayĀ I couldn'tĀ sleep so I had a little play around on the computer trying different ideas and remembered @Simon.ās idea from my effects pedal name ideas thread so I came up with this............. Iām kinda trying to make it look a bit like a tiled wall at a tube station, Iāve only got a black and white laser printer to do the image transfer with so I couldnāt do the red and blue on the logo but I like the monochrome look of itĀ What do you all reckon looks better the original design a few posts up or this one???..................š¤ Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

But I think for the moment Iāll stick to rattle cans I tried to do the image transfer today but I didnāt leave it to dry for long enough so it didnāt take very well but Iāll print off another one and try again tomorrow!! I could solder before I made itĀ but YouTube has somebody good tutorials on itĀ If you get a PCB they make your life easier because itās basically soldering by number but you have to source all the componentsĀ Pedalparts.co.uk has some great PCBs or you can buy full kitsĀ as well from them.........š Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I remembered I had some waterslide decal paper so I printed it off last nightĀ and have just applied it to the pedal just got to clear coat it tomorrow. I think it looks good if I do say so myself!!..........š Now the quandary is do I fit black knobs or chrome ones?? The foot switch is chrome so Iām leaning more towards chrome at the mo??
