I love him, he's amazing. He was over here recently with Chaka Khan. I didn't see any of the gigs, but everyone I know who did said how fantastic he was.

Yes, he is pretty special.
His solos are really quite fluid and melodic. I was lucky to see him at Ronnie Scott's with Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour.
The whole thing was pretty impressive. I came away thinking that I had been in the company of some pretty serious musicianship.

It infuriates me when you get the atypical 'why is that guitarist playing a bass', or similar, type comments.
Makes me want to ask why that person isn't playing their bass lines on a tuba! Same difference.

It's his music, he wrote it to play, he plays the bass guitar, get over it.

For the record, I didn't like the music. Great player(s) though!

This thread feels like being stuck in a timewarp back to the internet of fifteen years ago. A bassist playing a melody, whatever next!? Threads about ERB bashing will be along in a year or two...

I love bassists who take the bass away from root/fifth stuff at the first position but this just didn't grab me. The music was a bit flat and lacking in the sort of harmonic content I like. It came off as a fairly long, repetitive effort. But I could listen to a bassist blow over changes for 8 minutes to something more interesting.

Yeah, that's lovely. There is a transcription knocking around on the net somewhere of just Red's solo(s). (broken down into various sections)
Bass is not in standard tuning either ?
