Jazz bodies?

I've got a plan to upgrade my Jazz bitsa, and I'm after a sonic blue body. I don't want to have a scratchplate on it, so ideally it'd have the neck pickup properly routed and no screw holes on it.

Warmoth offer exactly what I want:

The trouble is, with shipping and customs it comes to about £400!

Does anybody know of anywhere else I should be looking, likely in the UK/EU? I tried Northwest Guitars, but unfortunately they don't do custom colours...

I'd send an email over to Jon Shuker to get a quote. I've got one of his basses and the work is exceptional, and the prices are very good, so much so that I'm planning on getting him to build a fretless neck. He'll also be able to do whatever sort of routing you want, so you'll be able to get their perfect body.

I'd want it rear routing, I'm not a fan of the 'floating' jazz control plate?

I really like it :) I'm a sucker for a little chrome.

Great shout, thanks - I'll email him today. The prices on the site look more in my range.

Note that if you have a luthier build you something, they'll likely request that you send them the neck so they can fit the neck pocket specifically to that neck.
Not a bad thing obviously, but worth noting that you might have to factor that postage cost into the final cost of the body :)

I've had a neck from Warmth and it was great, not had their bodies, but imagine everything is made to 'Fender' specs so necks/bodies will fit perfectly fine, but not as bespoke as having a Luthier make it

I've had 3 bodies from Warmoth
All 3 have been perfect.
I'm a believer in you get what you pay for but given the exchange rate at the moment Warmoth prices have become sky high compared with when i bought.
Factor in VAT, shipping and import duty and Warmoth is really expensive compared with a couple of years ago.

I like the chrome but I don't like the way a jazz plate ends against nothing when you have no pick guard if you know what I mean?

Try Marcello at Nardelli: http://nardellibass.com. Marcello sells bodies on eBay, which is where I first found him, but he'll build and finish something custom for you. He made the body for my Surf Jag - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/287400-nbd-jagtele-mashup. It was way less than £400 (although Brexit stupidity will make it more expensive than I paid now).

You can buy jazz bodies quite cheaply on eBay - surely a Luthier can spray it up for you for less
[/quote]

I was going to suggest this. Alternatively, could you spray a body yourself?

Be wary if buying bodies for use without a scratchplate. A lot have oversized pickup routes so theres some flexibility for the pickup to fit through a hole in a scratchplate. Will look pretty naff if there's no pickguard and a pickup with a big gap around it.

I have a P body made by these guys and it really is excellent quality, and was very well priced.
