What do you guys think of this? Tremelo on a stingray.....is that cool or gimmicky?! And how would it affect the tone?

HELP!

OK guys, I'm now seriously considering this bass. US Ebay is not a prob for me for many reasons, I just wondered if the Kahler bridge will change that musicman tone substantially? Basically, I'm looking for a 2band eq pre-EB ray in natural finish, and the price of this bass is significantly reduced by the tremelo/whammy addition (which I quite like). However, I desperately want that musicman tone. I don't want to compromise on the tone, but this does save money! Thoughts? Just how big a deal is this bridge?

Cheers all

I suppose the only change might be a small change in note attack and sustain, but if the Kahler is a quality unit (can't comment, never used one), then this effect should be minimal. It's the same wood, the same pickup, the same electronics, the same strings, the same nut.

I noticed a big change when I changed the bridge on my Epi EB-3, but that was going from a 3 point bridge on stilts to a Hipshot Supertone with about twice as much mass and total body contact.

here's a clip of Dave Larue using a Kahler-equipped Sterling-

It's been re-listed and a bit cheaper too. > link
I'm guessing though when I say that I think the ray tone would be compromised by this bridge also any trem bar I've ever used (guitars only) has always resulted in it going out of tune every time you touch it (maybe that's just because I've only mucked about with relative cheapos). I'm guessing again in that to fit this trem there would have had to of been a cavity installed to accommodate it, so unless you access to and the funds for a luthier to refill the cavity properly, I'd say this bass is stuck with this bridge for life and can't be returned to original if the sound was found to be compromised. Personally I would only buy this if you needed tremolo. IMHO.

edit for sp
