Hi Folks

Here for sale is my [b]1999 Fender Roscoe Beck 5 String[/b]; an excellent 3 Tone sunburst model which is in 7.5/10 condition and is all original.

Price/Trade Value: [b]£875 o.v.n.o.[/b]

I bought this bass last July from Basstardz here on the Forum because – to be frank - I missed having one (this one being the fourth RBV I’ve owned since 2007). And although I was really excited when I got it, the truth is that I’ve hardly used it since it arrived, perhaps a handful of rehearsals and about two gigs, certainly not much more than that.

Nevertheless, when I have used it, it’s been great as these basses always are; tonally, the RBV does just about everything for me; P-Bass tones, J-Bass tones, modern double-humbucking tones, single coil tones, etc, etc - all the classic bass sounds are here in one passive bass!! In terms of build quality, these basses are superb and for a 34" scale neck, the[b] B string[/b] sounds fabulous!!

To explain briefly, the reason I’m selling is two-fold really; firstly, because I joined a new band around the time I bought this last summer and in that band setting, I’m almost exclusively using 4 string basses because they suit the band much better. And secondly, because I currently have three 5 string basses, none of which are really getting a look in. And this is the one of my five string basses that I think is more likely to sell..

In terms of its condition, it’s in good condition generally and everything works as it should do, however, there’s some natural wear & tear as you’d expect for a bass of this age, including some markings to the back of the neck which you can feel when you’re playing. I’ve tried to photograph these as best I can in the photo of the back of the neck. I will try and do some better pictures later or tomorrow.

I think it goes without saying that I'd much rather this bass was collected in person, but I will ship it in a functional but far from perfect hard case (for an extra £15), and very securely packaged up if necessary.

Plenty of Basschat 'chat', tea/coffee and other beverages on offer to anyone who wants a trip to [b]Littlehampton[/b] on the south coast in order to come and view the bass first.

Price wise, I think [b]£875 ([/b]or very near offer) is about right taking into account what the market’s doing right now, the above mentioned condition etc. I did pay quite a bit more than this last year, so although I’d listen to offers, I won’t entertain anything too low as I’m not in a desperate rush to sell the bass. In terms of trades, I could be tempted by a not too expensive P Bass, but having just bought a fabulous Hayman 40 40, my 4 string bass needs are pretty much covered right now. But please feel free to PM me – worst I can do is say no (as the saying goes).

The necks are surprisingly comfortable to play IMO, but obviously, everyone's different when it comes to these things.

It's an asymmetric profile, which makes it easier to play if you've never tried a 5 string before.. String spacing at the bridge is 19mm.

I'll try to find out more detailed spec for you and will post it up here when I do.

Found this info online :

*34'' scale (don't get any ideas about the B string, it marvelous)
*1.875'' nut spacing
*String spacing is 19 mm
*Neck profile is a very comfortable asymmetric... it's big but it doesn't feel as big as it should (and in general I find big necks = big tone)

I've had a PM or two inquiring if the bass comes with the original case and any of the original case candy...

Unfortunately it doesn't; it wasn't like that when I bought it I'm afraid and to be honest, if it did have all that, then it'd most probably be priced differently..
