matski
Some thieving toe rag has nicked the castors that should be on the bottom of my Ampeg cabs - yes, yes, I know, never leave gear in rehearsal rooms - and I'm having a really hard time finding replacements. What I need are those swivelling ones on stems that fit a 4x10 and a 1x15. I'm based in Poland and have tried contacting the local distributor but to no avail. They come up from time to time on eBay but only from the US and the cost of shipping makes it unfeasible to actually buy. Anyone got any ideas....? Marvin
I had an Ampeg B410hlf and replaced the castors. I just got a set of generic ones from ebay. However, I've had a search on eBay and they don't seem to be available anymore. You could try a set of Fender castors. The ones that fitted my Ampeg cab were identical to the castors I had on my previous Fender cab. They stock them at Thomann. Bassman Steve
I'll dig out the name of a guy in Germany (I think) who has all sorts of Ampeg spares. He sent me a caster for a Portaflex cab a couple of years or so ago.

chris_b
I'd forget the castors and get a trolley.
matski
I'd forget the castors and get a trolley.
Not a bad idea, however the cabs are so heavy that the trolley would need to be something like an industrial-strength sack barrow - which is a tad too cumbersome and bulky tbh. Bass cabs light as a feather in comparison
discreet
If the cabs already have the holes for push-in castors I'd be tempted to use those instead of a trolley. I have a trolley and my cab has large castors and there's nothing in it really. I only used the trolley for a heavy all-valve amp and a cable bag. basshead56
I just bought some for my B100R combo, after a nightmare trying to get the right ones. If the cabs have the receiver plates already in place, you will need a set of 2"swivel casters. Beware, they are American and as such, hard to find as most places stock metric ones (including industrial and specialist distributors) and they cost a bit to ship - $75 US Dollars to ship to NZ for a $30 item - greedy toads!!! Ampeg used to sell them as an extra but the New Zealand (my local) distributor were hard to get hold of and still have not replied. However, Ernie Ball do a set that are EXACTLY the same and are easy enough to get direct from Ernie Ball. http://www.ernieball.com/products/guitar-hardware-parts-cables/2029/amp-caster-set-deluxe-pop-in-socket If the cabs are not set up for 'pop-in' style casters, any ones will do really, just don't use cheap plastic wheels and make sure they can take the weight. Or a dolly
StraightSix
Just as an update for European readers, the Ernie Ball casters described above, can be bought direct from Ernie Ball in the UK: http://www.ernieball.co.uk/p/amp-caster-set-deluxe-pop-in-socket

Dan Dare
Re. trollies, I use one of those sold for carrying fishing tackle (I'm an angler). They take plenty of weight and have large wheels, so easy to get up steps. They dismantle, too, so fit in the car. Don't know how available the are in Poland, but worth checking out. Bassman Steve
Ok, it took an age (sorry) but this guy is the man to go to for all your Ampeg spares - so I was told. It cost me €23 for a caster and caster socket (€15 of which was UPS). Sincere apologies for the time taken to track down the invoice.
