I had similar thoughts (and taste) but didn't go as far...

My Butterscotch 51 RI Precision was nice but i wanted to make it feel a bit more 'lived in'

Stripped paint, added slight contour, and refinished with a white blonde finish with a final clear coat over that (beautiful woodgrain showing through). Also relic'd the finish a wee bit around the edges.
Added proper vintage wiring harness, new input jack and full cavity shielding (second japanese bass I've had with poor cavity shielding).
I thought about replacing the stock pickup with something else, but have decided to leave that for now - really digging the sound.
Also added appropriate bridge and pickup covers

I also sanded back the finish on the neck. Now it feels amazingly good to play

Chucked on some LaBella flats and she's now an old school tone-machine!!!

Just waiting on a chrome tug bar to arrive from overseas and the rebirth is complete :)

My limelight precision. Pics here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/241445-nbd-limelight-64-precision-bass/page__hl__limelight%20precision

Sound here (please excuse the 'bass face' in the first video, I was sightreading the part!):

Looks quite something!
Prob a bit too heavy reliced for my own tastes,
but of course, it's all personal taste....

Looks really different, and very eye-catching though

I love my factory finish Fender J Roadworn
It's the best, most comfortable bass I've ever played
and I just love playing it :)

There are those who dislike roadworn / reliced instruments
but one real plus, is that you are less precious about them getting slight knocks on stage
.... and that's quite liberating, in an odd sort of way

I once had a near mint Rick
and was paranoid when I took it out & about....

Cheers
