RockfordStone Posted January 22, 2014 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Once i get my guitar amp back from the menders and get my bands ep mixed, I am going to make the move over the reaper from cubase, rather than using the 2 i will just use reaper. The main reason i have stuck with Cubase is its bundled VSTi's, Halion 1, Spector and such as reaper doesn't have any. [/quote] Not the OP, but I'll answer for my part: Cubase is 10x more expensive, with no perceived benefit for an amateur such as myself. It may well be 'better' in many (or even all...) respects, I wouldn't know, but my budget doesn't stretch that far. To me, it's Reaper simply because it does what I want for the price I can afford. [/quote] having used both, ive found that reaper does much the same as cubase in a more effcient way. as i don't have the luxury of being able to record everything at home, i have to go out on a lap top so i need a system which is reliable. the version of cubase i have is an old cracked version, which at times can be a real pain and just not work, or jam up the computer which my licensed version of reaper doesn't. i also like the simplicity of reaper, its quick, easy and customisable whilst still having the power of a more well known DAW. im also looking to start working with friends bands and other local outfits, so having legal software with support would be handy. i know i could use both, but if i do that, i won't get the hours in on reaper which i want to get in order to really get to grips with it. Monckyman Posted January 23, 2014 Share Posted January 23, 2014 For me, it's Cubase as that's what I grew up with. I would use Logic but I don't own a working Mac. I would use pro tools but the hardware unrestricted version is expensive. Reaper I looked at a couple of years ago but have to say didn't really give it the time it deserved. I've done 12 track simultaneous recording on a pretty basic spec laptop that was crawling slow and full of crap (borrowed from teenage stepdaughter when mine was out of action!) and it didn't bat an eyelid. Mixed on the same system and didn't object when I threw a load of VSTs at it. Cubase would have been creaking at the seams well before that point, in my experience. On a well specced system its less of a concern, but if you're looking for a DAW that you can use on a low spec box, or maybe throw on a cheap laptop for location tracking then it's a great shout. All that aside, it's nice to use, pretty comprehensively featured these days and costs buttons. It's a fantastic piece of software. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
