Loose Straplocks

Faced with a BB300 which kept shedding its strap I contemplated Straplocks, but in the past I had a couple of basses with these and the straplocks kept working loose from the straps.

In the end I used two washers off Grolsch bottle stoppers over the strap buttons after the strap is fitted. The strap hasn't slipped off yet. The only problem is the washers are a miserable red brown so it helps if your bass colour matches.

Grolsch are the cheapest. You are the first person I've seen who has posted that they don't like the Grolsch option.

Shaller strap locks have a long history for working loose. Dunlops don't. Allparts straplocks are Dunlops at a much lower price.

If you can bare to have washers with no connection at all to beer, then small tap washers from any DIY store do the same job as the Grolsch ones, and they're black.

A pack of 4 is probably cheaper than a beer too.

Straplocks working loose is mostly down to the type of screws used. I bought some schaller straplocks and didn't like the look of the screws supplied with them, so I didn't use them. Instead, I used 2-inch spax screws and they show no sign of even thinking about coming loose.

You can get Grolsch washers in other colours. Plenty of black ones on Ebay. I have blue ones from some posh water.

If the Straplocks are coming loose from the strap itself, it's nearly always because the "holes" in the strap haven't been prepared properly to accept them. I've used Grolsch since the mid 90s and never been put off by the colour. I am put off by strap locks though. Don't know why, just not for me.
