I love this bass, but am trying to focus mainly on DB and can't afford to keep so much money tied up in a beautiful and investment grade vintage instrument. PX with cash my way for a lower value fretless bass considered.

Thanks Michael, I blame you in part for posting that lovely clip of 4001FL a while back, I keep going back to it. Fretless Precisions are a lot more versatile than a lot of folks think, but I've never managed to get the tone of a 4003FL neck PUP soloed out of one, and for whatever reason, ithat's the tone I'm after at present

Had a couple of PMs regarding originality based on the thread linked to above. Yep, it's original, trust me if it wasn't it would have gone back to the seller a long time ago. The reason I was a little sceptical in the first posts in that thread was the rather outstanding cosmetic condition, but all the signs are that its two previous owners simply both took very good care of it. From the condition of the board, I'd guess they either played sparingly, gently or used flats - I've seen some chewed-up maple fretless boards in the past, and this is not!

Regarding weight, I'll get it on the scales this evening. Yes it does have a case although it's not the original, yes I can courier internationally and yes, ashtrays are included.

Original receipt from '78 plus recent receipt from New Kings Road Vintage Guitar Emporium are also included.

Cheers

I didn't clean this bass before I photographed it so it doesn't look at its best in the first post and the pics in the post above are from the original eBay listing, clearly not cleaned there either! It is however in extremely good condition that I guess could be described as almost mint. In short, it's a truly stunning example, which is in part the reason I'm moving it on, it's unlikely to stay in such good condition with two young daughters who treat Daddy's studio as their stomping ground. Given there are other similar examples of 70's maple fretless Precisions on sale elsewhere for between £1600 and £1900, and considering their relative rarity and collectibility, this is a good opportunity to buy an investment instrument at a price that you're unlikely to find anywhere else (and of course it will be sold with original receipts including serial number).

I got very lucky when I bought this bass on eBay, so I'm very happy to pass that luck on to another BCer. If it goes back to eBay I won't be so charitable

I've had lots of trade offers. Many thanks but I really do not want any fretted basses. I am interested in a cheaper fretless, ideally a Fender or MM, plus cash. I'd also consider a straight trade for a fretless Ric. I'm also always interested in high quality amplification for DB and other acoustic instruments (guitar, mandolin). My preference however is for a cash sale.

Absolutely love this and if there was any chance of me playing long-scale or fretless, I'd snap it up. One of the very few basses currently on BC that's under-priced (IMO of course)...and from one of our most respected members. This has got to be a winner for somebody

Thanks Loz, that's very kind of you. It's a lovely bass but I've just put it back in its case and it's going under the bed for a while. I'm going to have a think about whether I sell it, gig it, or keep it as an investment for 20 years time

Bump for an investment grade instrument. The pics above are a little lame and don't show the real beauty and condition of the instrument. I'll take some much better photos next time I get some decent daylight. Given where I live, please don't hold your breath. My only real trade wish at present would be for a decent fretless plus cash, and I'd like to take about £500 cash, so an MIJ/MIA Fender, G&L, Warwick, EB or similar would do the trick. There's also a very nice fretless Warwick in Kent that will likely sell soon, so I'd consider a decent cash offer on this while that bass is still available.

These possibly show the grain better
